Steven Seagal (Attack Force, Flight of Fury) and Eddie Griffin (Deuce Bigalow, Norbit) star this no holds barred action, crime-thriller about a man with a dark and violent past who is out for revenge against the murderer of his son. Max Ballester is a street cop working in the heart of the poverty stricken city who made the mistake of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Gunned down in the street in a senseless act of violence his murder goes unsolved and the killer unidentified. When Simon Ballester (Seagal), a former government specials ops agent, learns of his son's murder, he soon moves into the very neighborhood where Max was killed in order to spend his days asking questions and cracking heads as he searches for the killer of his son. He quickly makes enemies with the local gang members and soon finds himself a target of their hostility. Simon's ability with weapons and his flawless fighting skills prove useful as he uncovers a tangled web of deceit and murder.

Seagal's recent direct-to-DVD movies have all been more or less bad. At best they have been watchable. When "Mercenary for Justice" came out, I thought it couldn't get any worse and then he proved me wrong by doing "Attack Force". Many of the movies have suffered from incoherent scripts, bad dubbing (Seagal's character changing voices from one scene to the next) and lack of fighting scenes. I'm glad to say "Urban Justice" (aka "Renegade Justice") departs from this trend. The story is pretty straightforward and there are several scenes where Seagal gives the bad guys what they deserve. The movie is not without flaws (such as a couple of annoying supporting characters and cheesy flashback sequences, and the script could have used some tweaking) but it is definitely a step in the right direction for Seagal. I think most of his remaining fans will enjoy "Urban Justice" and those who gave up on him after "Attack Force" may want to consider giving this movie a chance.

The Seagal has had it pretty rough the past few years. Following the triumphant return to form of `Exit Wounds', we have had to painfully witness the man star in such awful direct to video dreck that was once only occupied by the likes of no name action wannabees with a mediocre level of martial arts talent.

Seeing The Seagal dubbed, stunt doubled and generally side lined in tatty `video premieres' have lessened the impact of what was once a dead cert action legend - who could forget the good old days of `Nico', `Marked For Death' or the classic `Out For justice'? Well, thankfully for us on this occasion, director Don Fauntleroy certainly hasn't - as this, Seagals' new movie `Renegade Justice' (formerly `Urban Justice' in the states) is a rousing return to the good old days of action, and almost a return to form for the big guy himself.

Here, The Seagal plays Simon Ballister, the embittered father whose policeman son is killed in a drive-by shooting. Taking a leaf from Charles Bronson in `Death Wish', Ballister moves into the worst part of town to track down the hoodlums who took down his son. It's all pretty standard action movie scripting, but after the likes of `Attack Force' and `The Foreigner' - it's like a breath of fresh air. The Seagal looks good, and actually feels like he is part of the movie - he's not just in it, being dubbed by another guy. He is truly the star and the movie benefits from that simple feat. Eddie Griffin co-stars, but to be honest - he is whoefully miscast. The rest of the cast are the usual assortment of bad guys, women in peril and sneering bent cops, but this one is The Seagals' show all the way, and its in his trademark action sequences does he get to shine.

Wow! The best he's made since his glory days in the early 90s. This is a vigilante film in the style of "Out for Justice" (which is my favorite Seagal film ever), and it's tough as ever. If you liked Out for Justice or Hard to Kill, you will like this one as well.

I know, decent acting! Am I serious? Yes, there is a very decent group of supporting actors in this movie, all of them I found very believable and that takes this movie a few notches up from where it would be without that.
What you have here is a very good revenge movie. Seagal's age works well for him as the father who has lost his son wanting to have justice when the police seem to drag their feet.
For Seagal he is in very good form in the fight scenes, very fast, very brutal.
Everything you are hoping for in a Seagal movie you have. This is one of 'the good ones'.
