The good name of Renaissance remains justifiably so with this release, from the underheard Yoursef and deep house man Behrouz.CD1 is the clincher - Yousef's set is just so finely tuned. Curious jazz-laden starters given way to quirky breaks, showcased best by Switch's Bounce to This - - an obscenely funky track, its brass sampling making it all the cooler. Other highlights like Go! and Strictly Business (also obscenely funky), compliment the mix further. Anyone familiar with the dependable In House We Trust series will know and expect good things from Behrouz on CD2. For the most part Behrouz's trademark of blend of deep and dark house is the order of the day. The accapella of Tone Depth's Everything, with its iconic guitar sample, is a highlight as early on as track 3. The low part of the entire album, however, is track 4 of this mix. Sorry but I just so tired of the 'understated house track with a woman evocatively speaking in Spanish over the top' format. Quality returns, however, soon after, with the soreen You Make Me Feel and kicking Esperanza the stand-out corkers. If you love breaks but not really deep/prog house (I normally reside firmly in the latter), or vise versa, this album, with its complimentary rather than unfitting contrast, might just broaden that area of the musical spectrum you reside in.
