You can't blame the band for this mess 16 Feb 2012
By Dennis Jewell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been a fan of Vanilla Fudge since I was thirteen years old, and I would be remiss if I didn't say I was excited when this compilation arrived by mail. My utopian feelings were short lived, because I sat down and listened to it.Not to take anything away from the band, but the quality of the re-issue is sorely lacking sonically. I do not feel it is representative of the greatness of Vanilla Fudge, in fact I believe that if Stein, Bogert, Martel, or Appice actually sat down and listened to this they would be appalled, and cringe. It is unlistenable. But truth in advertising exists as this compilation is released on Edsel records, and often the front grill of the Edsel was often said to look like a toilet seat where is exactly where this complilation belongs. Need I say more! Dennis M. Jewell

For Vanilla, it ain't bad. 20 April 2009

Ever since hearing the Fudge's Season of the Witch back in 1969, I have had a soft spot for this otherwise bombastic group. I never cared for their other material as much as these two recordings. The live portion shows some tortured but interesting chops. The Break Song still holds up well for 40-year-old instrumental pyrotechnics. I usually shy away from combined albums. I'm glad I didn't this time.
A BIG BAND 9 Oct 2011

THE BIG INFLUENCE OF VANILLA FUDGE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GOLDEN AGE OF ROCK (1967 - 1973)IS, BEYOND DOUBT,A WHOLE CERTAINTY.THE WORLD KNOWS HOW THESE FOUR MUSICIANS INFLUENCED THE DECISIONS OF MANY BANDS. ALL RECORDS ARE GOOD, MAYBE THIS PACK HASN'T THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FIRST OR "ROCK & ROLL", BUT ARE VERY ADVISABLE.
