Format: Audio CD
Another album I had on vinyl now on CD. The Tubes were a pretty anarchic lot from what I remember of them. Their original shows were as theatrical as they were musical and chainsaws featured somewhere. I know Fee Waybill was hospitalized as a result of one show. This album has as its central theme Television, American. Back in the 70's UK TV could perhaps hold its head up but with some notable exceptions has in the last few years become dumbed down to US levels. This album is not a rant against TV but describes the status quo of the time and serves as a warning. Compare this approach with Zappa's rather more direct "I'm the Slime" from the Overnite Sensation album. There are some great tracks on this album and there is not a weak one anywhere. I agree with a previous reviewer that Fee Waybill's voice is/was one of the best in rock. Great album cover too!
ADDENDUM: as noted Todd Rundgren produced this album (and very well) but I think he was pushing the boundaries of what was possible with the equipment of the time. There is just so much going on in the mix. This album would sound even more amazing with a remix on modern equipment with that much more head room and some adjustment to the EQ for modern kit.

I agree with the previous reviewer and I do have very fond memories of this album but the creeps who are asking between, £38 - £110 do not deserve to cash in on this. My advice is wait until it is re-released, it is bound to be sooner or later, and listen to something else in the meantime these is so much available out there that you can surely add this to your wish list until it is more affordable. I have also just noticed that this album appears in its entirity on Going Dwon....the Tubes, which is available at around £15, althogh the 4th Marketplace listing jumps up to £40 so you would need to be quick.

This is no doubt one of the best albums by "The Tubes". Produced by God himself (Todd Rundgren), this album has everything; pop, hard rock and superb ballads. I've always loved their lyrics, too. Singer Fee Waybill is blessed with one of the biggest and most powerful voices in rock ever. (-Together with Alice Cooper, I think he's one of the best and most underrated lyricists and singers in the biz.) And that album cover !. Highly recommended; should be part of every rock fan's collection.
