Book Description

1 Sep 2012
They hid in the bowels of Blackrock Mountain, in a fallout shelter meant for men of state and not a loose pack of juvenile delinquents and violent soon-to-be career criminals. Considering the radiation, what else could they do? Camp Blackrock was designed to teach teamwork and social responsibility to juvenile offenders. Through hard work and shared challenges, the campers were taught vital skills such as reliance on self and others and proved effective in preventing adult recidivism. The only problem was that Dakota was not a criminal. This was not her first survivalist camp, but it was supposed to be her last. All she had left was her senior year, then off to college and no more of this wild waste of time learning to prepare for what would kill everyone anyway. Prepping, to her, was just stupid. But then the war started. Dakota suddenly finds herself locked underground in a sixty year old facility meant to house the United States Senate with a hand full of criminals; some violent, some very violent. When the only adult, Sergeant Daniels is found dead, they are all thrust into a new lawless world, a world without order, a world where the strong rule and the weak die, alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read, BUT........................ 11 Oct 2012
By KatDan
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed the concept of this book even though it was a little predictable. I was pretty engrossed and got through it in no time.
I was however extremely disappointed at the overwhelming amount of grammatical and spelling mistakes, with particular issues with tense. It was an extremely slapdash transfer to Kindle and let this good read down.

If you think these issues wouldn't irritate you then give it a go :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Post apocalyptic young adult book 31 Dec 2012
By Walker99 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Eight teenagers are participating in a survivalist camp located on the edge of Blackrock Mountain. Six of them being juvenile offenders and are there by court order to teach them social responsibility. Barely a day into the camp, the teens are forced to use their survival skills when they hear a radio broadcast of a full out nuclear war taking out cities in the United States. The leader of the group, Sergeant Daniels, moves them to a nearby fall-out shelter built into the side of Blackrock Mountain for the US Senate some 60 years ago. Then the Sergeant turns up dead and the teens have more than nuclear radiation to worry about.

Jon Fore takes you into a post apocalyptic setting underground with in-depth characters that keep you wanting to know them more. The descriptions of the huge sprawling fall-out shelter makes you want to explore the abandoned facility with main Character Dakota and her new friend Jordan. Remnant Few is probably one of the better Young Adult books that I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars REMENENT FEW 6 Oct 2012
By David Fore - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a futuristic look at what could possible happen as the human race tries to destroy itself (or believes it is destroying itself). Our innate law of survival overcomes things we believe are real even when they are not. Enjoyably written and well worth reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful new addition from the mind of Jon Fore! 25 Sep 2012
By PlasmatixUltra - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I have been a fan of Mr. Fore's work for a while now. I have read his other 3 published novels, Black Water, Bone Orchard, and Paradise. I am consistently impressed by his growth as a writer over the course of his career, as well as his ability to work in different frameworks and styles. Remnant Few is a taut, claustrophobic, and suspenseful novel. I was gripped by the premise of a nuclear lockdown and potential fallout and I found myself really empathizing with the characters as this spiral of madness continued. The book is certainly worth your time and worth a read and I highly encourage anyone who's interested to give it a shot. Remnant Few is not my favorite of his books (That honor goes to Paradise, and then to Black Water) but it's certainly a solid addition to his catalog. I'm definitely looking forward to his next novel.

If you love strong characters, vivid settings, and scenes that will stay with you long after you put the book down, then you should give the works of Mr. Fore a try!
