Format:Audio CD
Remix albums tend to be a hit and miss affair. Generally the remixes either completely change the original song making it almost unrecognisable or are so bass and drum heavy that the melody is lost. So I was pleasantly surprised when i heard this CD which has been remixed by Japanese Djs and remixers and is a Japan-only release. Yes, the songs have been "updated" with bass and drums to sound more "now" but quite a few work well. This is, of course, subjective and not all will agree. The ones that work for me are "the boss" which sounds very current and the Supremes remixes particularly "you can't hurry love" and "you keep me hanging on" which retain the appeal of the original. The other Supremes tracks, "stop!.. " and "baby Love" take a bit of getting used to but sound better after a few listens. That is also true of the Ross solo tracks. The inevitable has been done with the "Mahogany theme" and "i'm still waiting" ie. a ballad turned into a fast dance track. "i'm still waiting" had this treatment before but this is a different remix. Both of these tracks will not appeal to all, but are certainly very different to the originals. This is also the case with "ain't no mountain...." which uses just bits of the chorus repeated over and over on top of a dance beat. The two remixes of "i'm coming out" are similar to the original with slight differences. The "upside down" remix changes the melody of the verses but keeps it on the chorus and i like the "downside up" vocal trick ie. "upside down...downside up..."
As stated this CD will not appeal to all but is, of course, a must-buy for fans of La Ross and The Supremes.

well its about time this was done to some great songs, do you know where your going to, its just out of this world,the boss,even better, iam coming out,what can i say great songs with a great beat, well done to all the people involved in this cd. now all you have to do is get on with the next one and fast. i have not stoped playing this cd sinse i got it, and iam dancing all around the house, if you do not have this dont wait go and get it now, you will be pleased and will not be able to stop yourself from dancing around your house or flat. well done to all ...

Could the hype & promise possibly live up to the expectation? When I saw the track listing I was dreading having to listen to yet another remix of "I'm Coming Out," (two versions), "Upside Down," and "The Boss," yet was pleasantly surprised how reworked and fresh these classics are as presented here. "You Keep Me Hangin' On," "Stop! In The Name Of Love," "Baby Love" and "You Can't Hurry Love" feature Diana Ross, Mary Wilson & Florence Ballard re-imagined and re-invented, and it works! Simply divine divalicious ear candy! My only let down is that not more Supremes recordings were retooled. I would especially have loved to hear "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" reworked, but maybe this will pave the way for more Supremes remix projects in the future. For a real treat, check out the Ashford & Simpson Songbook CD. The Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell track "Aint' No Mountain High Enough" (Arthur's A Major Reconstruction Mix) features the horn break from "Itching" in the bridge. That homage to "the girls" just brings a wide grin of recognition each time I hear it!
If Diana and Mary could just work out their thing and maybe recruit one of Florence Ballard's daughters who can sing to embark on a real farewell tour. Perhaps they could get backed by the surving Funk Brothers and perform new arrangements of their hit recordings from a more mature, retrospective point of view. Who else can sing of the highs and lows of love? As the French DJ on the Motor Town Revue In Paris said in announcing the Supremes...."Elles, sont trois, elles sont radisant, elles sont belles, et elles s'appelle Les Supremes et c'est pas pour rein! (They are three, they are radiant, they are beautiful, they are called the Supremes, and it isn't for nothing!) The Supremes have seen and done it all!
Wouldn't that be giving hardcore Supremes fans a night in heaven? Think of the energy and love vibes that would generate! But in the meantime, Japanese mix masters sir..... can we have please some more????
