The Remington Sleek and Smooth Hair Straightener helps you stay in control with a variable heat control ranging from 150 to 230 degrees Celsius. My own thinning white chevelure does not provide the ideal test-bed for this new product. However my journalist daughter Lucy Bryson has beautiful golden tresses, and she has kindly agreed to do the testing and let us know. It sounds pretty good to me, but Here's Lucy (between quote marks)

My girlfriend has been the guinea pig...and this is what she has to say;
I'm used to using GHD's in order to tame my hair every other day, but when they gave up the ghost (though being immaculately cared for) after the ripe old age of 6 years, I invested in these Remingtons.
In all honesty, I didn't hold out much hope for them being as good as my previous straighteners...however, I was pleasantly surprised to find out they are the best I have used on my own hair to date!
Now, my hair is quite fine, but naturally very curly (and after trying to go blonde last summer it's in less than tip top condition).
The heat setting on the straighteners is adjustable, between 180 and 230 degrees. When you turn it on, it's default is 190 (which I used) and the screen flashes at you until it's heated up to temperature (which took at most 20 - 25 seconds). I sectioned up my hair, sprayed heat protect serum and straightened as per usual.
I found I needed to use less effort and didn't need to go over each section of hair as many times as I used to. When I had finished, I had shaved 10 mins off my usual 25 minute routine (which means an extra 10 mins in bed in the morning for me!)
All in all, I'm very impressed with how this product has performed and would recommend it to friends to buy.

The lock feature - you can press the plates together and lock them in place. Makes it tidier to put away and take with you out and about.
Minimal packaging - makes for easy recycling.
Free carry pouch - keep the straighteners in excellent condition.
3yr guarantee - so if they break down within this time, Remington will usually fix them or provide a replacement.

These Remington straighteners arrive with security seal on the box at both ends. The straighteners are also taped at the ends so that you can be sure that, in these times of purchase and return, they have not been used and returned by a previous purchaser. They have an attractive design and feel sturdy yet light. They have three heat settings. The lowest setting 150°C is recommended for fine hair, the medium setting is for medium hair and the highest setting which goes all the way up to 230°C is recommended for thick hair. The cord is attached by a swivel neck so that you can turn the straighteners without the cord tangling.
When activated, the straighteners light up with a digital display so that you can easily read off the heat setting. They reach 150°C almost instantly -- within 15 seconds. To lower or raise the temperature simply press the `-` or `+'. Once you have the required temperature simply press the '-' button for two seconds to lock it. This facility is handy for preventing you accidentally switching up the temperature whilst using the straighteners. The instructions recommend making only two passes of the straighteners down the hair to avoid damage. This is good advice. Two fairly slow passes at 150°C straightened my hair, which is long, thick -- and with a strong natural wave. I am really pleased with the results and haven't had to use the hotter setting. The longer length ceramic plates also give an attractive sheen. There is a 'heat boost function': you press the `+' button for two seconds and the straighteners automatically go to the highest heat setting: 230°C. I thought I would find this useful but I have found 150°C generally does the job fine. You would probably only need this if you have curly course hair.
A great safety feature is the automatic safety shut off. Many a time have my left my old straighteners heating away on the radiator all day burning electricity and possibly my house down. Of course, always switch off your straighteners but should you think you might have forgotten -- you don't then need to rush all the way home lunchtime to check because if no buttons have been pressed for an hour, the straightener automatically switches itself off.
For transportation, you can lock the straighteners shut and put them in the handy heatproof travelling pouch, which saves winding the flex round to keep them together, which they do not recommend. According to the instructions, there is a three-year guarantee, so if you purchase them, be sure to save your receipt and keep it in safe place just in case. Also keep the instructions handy since there is no way of working out how the extra features work, such as the boost facility and temperature lock, without them. I found this to be a quality made, effective and thoughtfully designed product. A great improvement on the straighteners of old. Recommended.
