4.0 out of 5 stars Holding Back The River 1 Mar 2014
By MF
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Wet Wet Wet's third album released 1989. It's a good solid album as expected and I like everything on here but Maggie May isn't as good as the other songs for me. I give Maggie May 3/5, How The Hell Did They Get There is a 5/5 for me and one of the best on there. I also quite like Stay With Me Heartache and Hold Back the River.

1. Sweet Surrender 4/5
2. Stay With Me Heartache (Can't Stand The Night) 5/5
3. Blue For You 4/5
4. Broke Away 4/5
5. You've Had It 4/5
6. I Wish 4/5
7. Keys To Your Heart 4/5
8. Maggie May 3/5
9. Hold Back The River 5/5
10. How The Hell Did They Get There 5/5

4.0 out of 5 stars An Aural Experience 8 July 2001
By Acnoth - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This CD is very difficult to describe. Other than saying that it's a thoroughly enjoyable listen throughout, there are no easily accessible descriptions that peg the CD as a whole. Nevertheless. "Condition Red" has been described as the highlight of the CD. This worried me. It was the first track I heard and I was not overly enchanted. It's got more of a dance groove than I prefer and I was worried that the rest of the CD would be more of the same, only not quite as good. I needn't have worried, as the rest of the CD excellently interprets jazz themes in an acid environment. Simon Richmond, in his Palm Skin Productions persona, proves himself more than capable of grabbing an image and evoking it remarkably well. This is particularly evident in his triumvirate "How the West Was Won," "Osaka," and "Trouble Rides a Fast Horse." "Meantime" is disturbingly haunting, and the closer, "Beethoven Street," shows Richmond's ability to combine jazz and classical elements. This is not a cheap CD, but if you're interested in hearing excellently crafted acid jazz, it is well worth the expense.
