Book Description

A year after the sinking of the Titanic, four teens try to cope with memories of that horrific night

It’s April 1913, and survivors of the RMS Titanic have gathered to remember those who didn’t make it onto the lifeboats. Debutante Elizabeth Farr, who had been in first class, lost her father. Steerage passenger Katie Hanrahan nearly lost her life. Still, neither of them wants to be at the remembrance service. All they really want to do is forget. A year after that awful night, Elizabeth still feels the chill of the frigid arctic air, and Katie can’t sleep because of nightmares of being trapped belowdecks, waiting for death. They want it to go away, but Titanic will never leave them.
On their voyage one year ago, Elizabeth met a struggling artist named Max, and Katie fell for a boy from her hometown whose brother perished in the disaster. As the four of them strive to make new lives in New York, they struggle to move beyond the night that changed them all forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant sequel 7 July 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Great sequel to "Titanic: The Long Night" What happens:
It's a year after the Titanic diaster and the 4 main characters who have survived it struggle to put the sinking behind them. Elizabeth Farr can't put the diaster behind her, and it appears that her widowed mother and her love, Max Whittaker, have been able to. Keeping a promise that she made to her father on the sinking ship, she takes care of her mother, doing everything with her, which irritates Max, who is enjoying life as an artist, but angry that he isn't seeing Elizabeth as much.
Kathleen(Katie)Hanrahan is living with her aunt and uncle in Brooklyn and is gaining success as a singer but she isn't seeing alot of her love, Patrick(Paddy)Kelleher who is writing a book about his experiences of the sinking but can't write because of the memory of his brother Brian, who was lost. Katie and Paddy's relationship seems to hit the rocks while Elizabeth and Max start to patch things up. Elizbeth even writes secretly to Vasser and gets a scholarship, but Nola, her mother, will do anything to keep her daughter next to her, and you won't believe what she does. Elizabeth knows for certain Max has gotten through the disaster, but after looking at Max' shocking new artwork, she realizes that he can't put the sinking, and his near death, behind him either. Many surprises occur in this book, like a fire nearly take the life of one of the characters (I'm not telling who) and also, Katie and Elizabeth meet face-to-face. But you have to read the book to see what happens.

i thought it was very well written. it wasn't fantisy it was real life. everyone is trying hard to forget the disater, but it isn't simple at all. the book shows it is not easy to get over a disater nomatter how much time may pass. elizabeth has a constant chill and is trying to live with the promise she made with her father to take care of her mother. max trys to help elizabeth but fear she is losing her sprit. katie has made a fine singing career but has homesickness and problems with paddy, and paddy can't write the book about the disater he promised his editor because he can't face reliving the terrible disater. i think if you loved the frist one you will like this one.

I love this book i found it very emotionaly challenging. I am interested in the titanic and although this book is fictional i really felt for the characters. This is the second of two books after reading the first one i was very happy to discover that i would learn what happened to their lives after the titanic. The good thing about this book is that you do not have to read the first one to uderstand what is going on i recommend this book to anyone.
