"Remembering Rachel" is a first hand account of the dreadful and brutal murder of Rachel O'Reilly, written by her mother Rose Callaly. It was a murder so gruesome, and one of the most tragic and talked about cases that Ireland has ever known.
The book is simply written, by this mother grieving for her adopted daughter. Not only was it a brutal and gruesome murder, the perpetrator was unbelievable callous and calculating.
Rose tells us of the family background and what Rachel was like in her youth. We are taken to her wedding to Joe, to the birth of her children and on to the shock horror of her death. We journey with Rose and the family through the darkest of days after the murder. We travel with them through their quest to find and prove who killed their beloved daughter and like them, we are shocked at the attitude of Joe, Rachel's widower.
This is a heart rending account of all this, the trial and the appeal when finally justice prevailed. I hope that in writing this book, Rose Callaly can now find some peace and just be left with the happy memories of her daughter, Rachel.
