Howell Conant (1917-1999) first met Grace Kelly on a 1955 modelling assignment, and the two found an instant easy rapport. From then until Grace's untimely death in September, 1982, Conant was always present in Grace's life - in New York City, in Jamaica, in Hollywood, in Monaco - to make the most intimate pictures of this astonishingly lovely person. (In fact, his attendance at the princess' funeral marked the very first time he travelled to Monaco without his camera.) Many of the sublime images in this book appeared in the pages of "Life", "Look", "Paris Match", "Collier's" and other magazines. Several of the photographs are published for the first time.Grace was Howell Conant's greatest subject, and he was her friend, confidante and perfect portraitist. She has been gone for over two decades now, but she-and their friendship will live forever in these pictures.

This book bears witness to the extraordinary elegance of Grace Kelly. The camera loved her- notably the camera of "Life" photogapher Howell Conant, a photographer she trusted. In Conant's photographs, (from the last part of her film career, to her years as Princess of Monaco), Kelly appears incapable of looking anything but poised: whatever the circumstances, and whatever clothes she happens to be wearing, she conveys an air of distinction and taste, but also of fun!
Of particular interest in this small book are some private photographs taken by Conant at the time of her engagement to Prince Rainier. There is something touching about Kelly's determination to bring dignity to her role as Princess, despite private difficulties. Her qualities as a film actress and later as a princess, together with her startling beauty and elegance, made her one of the most enchanting figures of the 20th century, and it appears that her elegant magic is surviving the test of time.

This is a lovely book and one to add to any collection of Grace Kelly books. It is in paperback format, reasonably priced and contains some beautiful photographs of Grace, some of which have not been widely seen before. Recommended.
