Book Description

1 Oct 2012
Last night I was breaking all the rules, making up new ones. Me, a wild bunch of one, trailing a blaze of glory, saying, yes, tonight, I'm living on a prayer. I was winging it, squaring off with fate, dialling my date with destiny, letting my ego write the cheques, going eye to eye, punch for punch, drink for drink with the ruffian that is life. And when I was done, there was no need to look back in anger, because when I was done I couldn't look back at all. Meet Samuel Grant. He's trying to work a few things out. Remember to Breathe is a rom-com trip set to a retro beat, for anyone who's ever partied like it was 1999. And woken to realise that the last tequila was unwise.

An excellent portrayal of the out-of-control life of a young London advertising exec at the turn of the Millennium. Great characters, excruciating incidents and it's also very funny throughout. A well-written roller-coaster and fascinating insight into the psyche of young professional urban males trying to cope with the intensity of their jobs, lives and loves - it's also packed full of wonderfully precise observations. It would make a great movie or TV series like a sort of British Madmen. I really hope there's a follow-up!

5.0 out of 5 stars I have met Samuel Grant! 4 Dec 2012
By Jodie
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Somewhere between an edgy Richard Curtis and David Nicholls' `One Day' (only I'd volunteer better written), `Remember to Breathe' is very smart, funny, and provocative. It's a polemic - about relationships; the gender divide; what men really think and feel about women. Golly! The main protagonist, Samuel Grant, is a young man of the 90's, a (by)product of his time, and London serves as backdrop to his nursing of broken heart, bruised ego, and (a form of) rites of passage awakening. Will you like Samuel? Will you hate him? You'll very likely do both, and you'll laugh with him AND at him along the way. This is great stuff from Simon Pont, a talented wordsmith who writes with pace, and demonstrates a genuine ear for punchy dialogue. A fine novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rom Com with a Dash of Realism! 12 Nov 2012
By Miss S
Format:Paperback
Absolutely could not put this down, it took me 2 weeks to read the last 20 pages...simply because I wasn't ready to let go! Fantastic portrayal of a young Ad Exec living in London and surviving all the mayhem that ensues. Samuel Grant is a character that we can all relate to; he personifies that little part of ourselves that we wish didn't exist. Tragic and self-involved, Grant is drastically unlovable but you can't help but keep on reading with the hope that he will finally come good. Refreshingly written from a, sometimes extremely stark, male point of view with craftily placed 90s references, this novel will not disappoint. Remember to Breathe includes everything delicious about a Rom Com but with an added dash of necessary realism; a reminder to all of us that we sometimes need to Remember to Breathe.
