History in well-presented handy bit-size chunks,
By
This review is from: Remember the Alamo?: American History in Bite-Sized Chunks (Hardcover)
This is one of a series of usually-excellent little (but not too little) hardback books dealing with areas of knowledge you probably covered to some extent at school and now want to learn a bit more about (or be reminded of what you learned before). Like the others it gives a helpful overview of the subject in a light but informative style that is a real pleasure to read.
American history is something we tend to know little about, which is a pity because it's a fascinating subject in its own right while the nation it deals with has shaped our world and experience to a major extent. This is the thumbnail version, covering a lot of ground and overview-style dealing with key facts. It's organised as a page per subject, which makes it easy to take in in short bursts, put down, and resume later. Inevitably this means that some subjects are dealt with more thoroughly than others: the constraint of packing it into one page can make for a rather skimpy overview of a major topic, but that's a small price to pay for the accessible information.

Excellent book for those interested in American history. A very easy pick-up whenever you have five minutes if you cannot afford the time to read straight away. Helpful timelines as well. Found out more reading this book than expected. Well worth having. Good for secondary school children as brings together both sides of the story - UK/USA. Would recommend.

This book was simple and easy. A good way to read historical facts without being bore to tears. One history fact per page. An excellent light read for beach holiday and communters and busy people.
