Review

'this appealing little book is a timely arrival...brief and easy-to-read chunks' -- Family History Monthly, March, 2010

Product Description

For most people the details of the American Revolution, the history of Thanksgiving and the Battle of the Alamo are sketchy at best. However, help is at hand as "Remember the Alamo?" contains all the American history you learnt at school and promptly forgot, and perhaps some things that you were never taught in the first place. Broken down into easily digested bite-sized chunks, this book will teach you the basics of over 150 key events from Columbus to Nixon and from cowboys to cosmonauts. "Remember the Alamo?" assumes no other knowledge of world history and doesn't contain anything but the most salient points so that anyone can become clued up on the history of one of the world's most developed nations. Concise and informative, yet entertaining and engagingly written, "Remember the Alamo?" contains everything you will ever need to know about the United States.

Very interesting 12 Feb 2011
Format:Hardcover
Excellent book for those interested in American history. A very easy pick-up whenever you have five minutes if you cannot afford the time to read straight away. Helpful timelines as well. Found out more reading this book than expected. Well worth having. Good for secondary school children as brings together both sides of the story - UK/USA. Would recommend.

This book was simple and easy. A good way to read historical facts without being bore to tears. One history fact per page. An excellent light read for beach holiday and communters and busy people.

I thought I knew a little about American history, but this short book taught me how much I didn't know. It is very accessible, written in an informative serious style (beware - some in this series aren't). I don't see how the authors could have written this book much better, given the brief to write a short history of the US in bite-sized chunks.

It is not, and is not intended to be, a detailed history and on that basis, I think it succeeds. It has certainly fueled my appetite to read more comprehensive histories of the USA.
