Alkaline Trio - Behind the Scenes

Alkaline Trio’s iconic Heart & Skull symbol has come to represent more than the viscerally creative band and their deeply connective albums. While it does symbolize those things, the instantly recognizable logo tattooed on the bodies, hearts and minds of supporters worldwide also denotes a diverse but decisive lifestyle equal parts passion and dedication. It’s a commitment to ... Read more in Amazon's Alkaline Trio Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Alk3 Remains Great 11 Feb 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Alkaline Trio have now got to the stage where they no longer need to impress. Through their 10 years of dark punk rock, they've put together 6 albums, each with their own assembly of fan-favourite songs and singles. This CD features 22 songs that are not found on this albums. These include b-sides, rarities, covers and 1 off releases.

Let's start with the positives. There are 22 songs on the cd as well as the bonus video dvd. These songs include high quality songs that SHOULD have been included on albums (how the hell did 'Fall victim' get on Crimson instead of 'While You're Waiting'?!?). Other great songs include anti-war release 'Warbrain', rare 'happy' song 'We can never break up', epic 'Queen of Pain' and the original version of Sadie. Also included in the booklet is the bands story behind each song in their own words - something i wish all bands would do.

In terms of bad points, there really isn't any. If you live in Europe or the UK, you'll find 4 of the songs on UK-releases of 'Maybe i'll catch Fire' and 'Good Mourning' but who cares when there's 22 songs to choose from. Most of the songs are good, well written songs, not half-finished attempts included as fodder. For 7 you really can't fault it. A great release from a great band.

Melodic Punkrock at it's best. These forgotten Tracks, B-Sides, EP's an so on are really good material, the first half ist overwhelming. If you like AT, this is a must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of songs. 6 Dec 2011
Format:Audio CD
It really is, and for those of you who don't want to go look it up here is the list:

"My Standard Break from Life" - 2:34
"Dead End Road" - 3:08

"Jaked on Green Beers" - 3:27
"Queen of Pain" - 3:56
"While You're Waiting" - 4:06
"Rooftops" - 2:15
"Old School Reasons" - 2:51
"Warbrain" - 2:28
"Fine Without You" - 3:15
"Hating Every Minute" - 3:03
"Dead and Broken" - 2:09
"Sadie" - 4:38

"My Standard Break from Life" (Live Acoustic) - 2:42
"I'm Dying Tomorrow" (Live) - 2:31

I was pretty psyched when this came out, along with the scraps companion and for anyone who likes Alkaline Trio I would definitely recommend this one. It has a good spread of songs from across their career and some b-sides and splits that a lot of people miss otherwise.
11-16 (Fine without you - wait for the blackout) are all origianlly from the One Man Army splitAlkaline Trio/One Man Army which is also definitely worth checking out.
This collection could quite possibly be my favorite Alkaline Trio album, it might even come out slightly ahead of Goddamnit for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nearly as good as Goddamit 16 Feb 2009
Format:Audio CD
CD and DVD? For only 7? Least, that's what I paid and was definately worth it. You get interviews with the amazing trio (Matt is hilarious), their current music videos including Mercy Me (a personal favourite), loads of odds and ends and of course some brilliant live footage. All this and no mention of the excellent CD, which of course is quite great and unique for the trio as it features B-sides and rare songs spanning throughout their carrer so there is a healthy variety of the band's sound on there. Old fan's and newcomers to the Trio scene will not be disappointed, guaranteed!Goddamnit

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, great stuff 2 April 2007

All Alkaline Trio is good. However, b-side and misc collections, by their very nature, can be hit-and-miss. Not so with Remains! Despite the horrid cover art, the music within is some of the best stuff Alkaline Trio has done. Worth buying JUST for the cover of Berlin's "Riding on the Metro". Amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have to own one of their cd's.... 10 Feb 2008
By R.H. - Published on Amazon.com

Make it this one. The only real problem I had with it is that they decided to include the Split version of Sadie even though they produced another version of it for Crimson, but they held out on Over at the Frankenstein place. Even still, if you don't have Crimson, Sadie is one of the bands best songs, and throw in Hell Yes, Queen of Pain, Dead End Road, Hating Every Minute, Jaked on Green Beers, Metro, We Can Never Break Up, and Warbrain you have some of their finest songs.

Also, on the booklet that comes with the CD, Matt Skiba says that "We Can Never Break Up" is the song that represents what the band is all about, and having heard all their CD's, I think that is true and this CD represents what they are all about better than any other. Great for hardcore fans, but even better for those unfamiliar with the band.

not so much. What could've been a wonderfully put together DVD is nothing but a clip show with no menu. Go figure? The CD, however, is awesome. I've had it in my car's CD player for 2 months now and I don't look to stop listening to it anytime soon. "Metro", "Dead End Road", "Old School Reasons", Don't Say You Won't", "Hell Yes", and "Rooftops" play in my head like my brain is the iTunes shuffle. Other great tracks on here too. For any Trio fan, it's a must have. For any music fan who wants to give a new band a shot, look no further than this compilation of B-sides and rarities.

3.0 out of 5 stars eh... 11 Mar 2007

if you MUST own everything alkaline trio or are new to them and have not heard a lot of older stuff, then i would say get this cd. otherwise, theres a song or two i never heard before but the other stuff didnt seem that rare (for instance their split material they threw on here). And the DVD is entertaining but is about a weak 30 minutes long. It definitely is not a full feature Alkaline trio DVD which the "trailer" made it seem to be.
