wasn't worth the wait 22 Oct 2010
By Missy
Format:Paperback
This book is the first of two, the second part of the story is in Penny Jordan's The Dutiful Wife. I bought The Reluctant Surrender when it was first released but waited to read it until the second part was released as normally i can not wait to find out what happens next in the story. Now i wish i had read it, as then i would not have wasted my money on the second book. The story really dragged along for me, instead of adding more events or more dialogue into the story it is like she has filled out the book by over describing things where there was no need too. There were some parts where the description of one thing would take up half a page. I found myself skimming through most of it. I was really disappointed in the book and feel it was a wasted opportunity by author.

I've grown up on these series of books and enjoyed them to varying degrees. I haven't read many recently but several of Penny Jordan's previous books are firm favourites. All the usual elements of mega rich alpha male verses unimpressed independant female were present and correct. Boy meets Girl, deny they are sexually attracted to each other for most of the book, confusion, confrontation and tension ensue until said attraction is acted on. I did like her characters detailed backstory albeit ramped up to melodrama and use of coincidence - in keeping with M&B and her focus on emotion, reasons for actions, etc. This isn't one of Penny Jordan's best, but it did the job of pleasantly passing the time. Having read a spoiler ridden review of the second part: The Dutiful Wife, I don't feel any added incentive to read it and continue the story, primarily as not that invested in the two lead characters. As it's fairly obvious where the plot is being prodded to. All that said, for £1 it's not a waste of time or money.

Another Two Part Novel 27 Dec 2010
By ghsoapster - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I didn't start reading this book until I had both parts in my hand. I still haven't gotten through the second book, yet.

Giselle steals a parking place from Saul and from then on it's war and Saul wants revenge. Antagonism soon is turning to passion. They discover they have a lot in common, like neither ever wants to have a child. Giselle confesses her deep dark secret to Saul and they seem headed for a happily ever after ending, only there's something Giselle hasn't told Saul that she's sure there's no reason for him to ever have to know. And thus ends book one.
