Book Description

Author Walter Wangerin, Jr., retells the Passion story (from Mark's version) and gives it new relevance for today's reader. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Back Cover

No story has more significance than this: the death and resurrection of Jesus. But somehow the oft-repeated tale of Christ's Passion can become too familiar, too formalized, for us to experience its incredible immediacy. The meditations in Reliving the Passion, which received a Gold Medallion award in 1993, follow the story as given in the gospel of Mark -- from the moment when the chief priests plot to kill Jesus to the Resurrection. But these readings are more than a recounting of events; they are an imaginary reenactment, leading the reader to re-experience the Passion or perhaps see it fully for the very first time. As only a great storyteller can, Walter Wangerin takes his readers inside the story of Christ’s passion. Drawn from the Gospel of Mark, Reliving the Passion translates the events—from the moment when the chief priests plot to kill Jesus to the Resurrection—into the realm of feeling, image, and experience. In richly personal detail, Wangerin helps us recognize our own faces in the streets of Jerusalem; breathe the dark air of Golgotha; and experience, as Mary and Peter did, the bewilderment, the challenge, and the ultimate revelation of knowing the man called Jesus. A perfect devotional for the Lenten season. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

I could not put this book down - prepare to be changed! 24 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Wangerin's writing style is so refreshing - it brings the story of Christ to life in a new and exciting way. The emotive writing style draws you in as the reader and you cannot put the book away - I read and re-read the crucifixion chapters and came away almost breathless with a renewed sense of what Christ went through for me! The cast of characters that were involved also come to life with all the passion and "realness" of that day.

A "must-read" for all Christians and skeptics 24 Nov 1997
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This powerful book transports the reader to Jesus' last week on earth. Wangerin pulls the reader into the emotion and reality of the crucifixion and the events leading up to it. I felt convicted and moved by the sacrifice made on my behalf in a new way. Highly recommended!

This is my third year to read "Reliving the Passion". It is pure poetry at its finest and Walter Wangerin Jr. transports you back to the days leading up to and through the Passion. Add this book to you library and make it a tradition each year at Lent. Also check out his book for Advent!
