I read this book before I saw the film version and like usual the book was much better! I was quite dissapointed with the film as one of my favorite characters wasn't in the film and the ending was totally different.
The Relic is about a creature that lives in the underground basements of the New York Natural History Museum. It creeps around at night time and kills and feeds on its unsuspecting victims brains, eating only the parts that contain hormones. As the story goes on you discover more about the ill fated trip that brought the creature back and the true identity of what it is.
This book is full of suspense and extremely hard to put down.

First book of the Pendergast series. A typical man-eater suspense thriller which happen in a big museum settings. We have FBI agent teaming up with a Lt. NYPD officer D'Agosta along with museum researcher Margo Green leading the search for the ultimate creature feeding on Fibers and human brains.

The day of a big exhibition launch - is where the action and suspense begins. There are segments where some characters are put in situation they need to fight for survivor and to find a way to destroy the big beast.

There will be a sequel to this when later researcher try to re-develop what is not suppose to be. Good read towards the end but I hope main character Pendergast has more role play in the next book which i find lacking in this one. 4 Star read for Relic.

i read this book in the summer of '97. i wish i had read it more slowly, as i finished it in a month! Linocln and preston have produced a most brilliant story, the characters are so real, you can see them. the action and scares are like that of a movie;you can't see it yet, then you can! it is a ride that any reader interesed in horror should take. the chracter of Pendergast was beautifully potrayed. Whilst reading it , Pendergast was visualised as Donald Sutherland, jeez, it was becoming a movie in my head that i did not want to stop watching! When the ride was over, so was the summer and the shear volociety of the read was unmatched to this day. maximun respect to Lincoln and to Preston, i want to see more!!!!

Good film, great book.
Having already seen the film I wasn't sure if it was worth reading the book - I'm glad I did though as the book improves on the film in a number of ways. Read more

A good start
Ignore the film, which is only the same as in as much as there is a murderous creature in it, most of the characters have the same names and its set in a museum. Read more
