In the space of a breath, what he thought was his life...shattered.

Grant Borrows has been Shifted- in the silence between heartbeats, his whole life fundamentally altered. There's another man in the world wearing his face and living his life. What's more, the man staring back from his mirror is a stranger.

But the changes don't stop at skin-level. Inexplicably, he's able to affect objects around him by simply thinking about them. And as he soon learns, he's become the central figure in a vast web of intrigue that stretches from an underground global conspiracy to a prophecy dating back over seven thousand years. Enemies and allies find him at every turn, but one thing they learn all too soon is that you don't want to push Grant Borrows too far...

Can destiny be undone?

The players are ready.
The game is in motion.
And the pace is: Relentless.

On that particular rainy morning, Collin Boyd was walking down a rainy street on his way to work and sees himself across the street. We're talking the same clothes, same briefcase, everything. As Collin runs to catch up with himself, he catches his reflection in the mirror and sees...a complete stranger staring back.

As he stares at the new him, a woman appears and warns him and he is now part of something huge. He must figure out who are his friends and who are his enemies because there is an assassin after him. And with that warning, she vanishes.

Thrust into a world he hardly knows, the now named Grant Borrows must figure out what is happening to him and how to control the powers he suddenly seems to have. Because the answers hold the key to a long ago prophecy that he just might fulfill. If he can stay alive long enough, that is.

I've had this book since it came out, but only picked it up recently. I wish I had picked it up sooner. I was hooked on page one. And just when I got one answer or Grant survived one problem, two more took their place. As a result, I had a very hard time putting it down. The characters were interesting. And the multiple view points added to the story.

This is a fantasy novel of sorts. While most of the action involves fantasy, it takes place to real humans in modern day Los Angeles. I certainly enjoyed the aspect of watching the action take place in a world I knew. And there is a conspiracy behind things that I have a feeling will become much bigger in future books.

The only weakness is the writing. It was obviously a first novel, and at times it could have used a tad more polish. But it was still highly readable. I certainly flew through the pages.

I can hardly wait to get my hands on the next two books in the series and see where Grant's path truly lies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Starts Well 15 Feb 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked the ideas, suddenly one morning Collin Boyd sees his reflection and it is not someone he recognises in fact this has happened to a number of people who all now have new identities and an individual super power. Colin who has now become Grant Borrows tries to find out what has happened. He is given clues by a girl with bare feet and just to help things along there is a rogue policeman and another person who has changed but is trying to kill Gary. It works well for just over half of the book at which time it all slows down and it seems to be padded out. Towards the end it speeds up and winds up with a climax which is a bit contrived and tries to encourage you to buy the next book in the series. I quite enjoyed the book but will not be buying part 2.
The formatting on the Kindle was quite strange with wide line spacing and some highlighted (Black Background) which was difficult to read. Also there were a couple of passages in script which I found too small to read without zooming.

4.0 out of 5 stars wow 29 Jan 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Just finished reading this book and really enjoyed it. So much so that I have just downloaded the next 2. to start today.Agree with the last post the writing needs a bit of polish but the story is brilliant and more than makes up for it.Can't wait to start the next one.

1.0 out of 5 stars oh dear 24 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
the theme is interesting and should work, however either the writing is intentionally jerky or the editing to kindle has just not worked resulting in an extremely disjointed novel. At times I even wondered if the pages/paragraphs had been transposed. A pity as I'd like to read the rest of the series if only I could be assured the editing had improved.

1.0 out of 5 stars Easy to see why it's a free book 1 Mar 2011
By Fellini
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An interesting concept but I found it so difficult to read. The story seemed to have little natural flow and started to leap about all over the place after the early chapters.
Add this to the truly annoying page layout which often featured one-sentence paragraphs with double spacing between them and I couldn't manage to get past the ninth or tenth chapter.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lucky to get 2 stars. 28 Feb 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm glad they liked it, but I must have been reading a different book to the ones read by the 5 star reviewers. I only give this two stars because it's free on Kindle; otherwise it's definitely a one-starrer
I found this book poorly written and, because of that, confusing. One gets the feeling that the author knows what he's on about, but has great difficulty in transmitting his ideas to the reader. It's derivative in the extreme - think Dan Brown meets Superman meets Heroes and you'll get the rough idea. The characters are one-dimensional despite the author's attempts to inject emotional angst through the main character's unfortunate trait of allowing those near to him to die.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time 14 Jun 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I must have been reading a different book to the five star reviewers. I even tried "listening" to it to see if it improved, but no. I did not even bother to get to the end of the book - a first for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars relentless dominion trilogy 18 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Relentless (Dominion Trilogy #1): Dominion Trilogy, Book 1 Just finished. Wish I hadn't bothered, for starters two spelling mistakes and three grammatical errors. The story felt like a several other books mixed up and rewritten. Nothing new or vaguely interesting. Depending on how fast you read, you'll just be wasting several hours or days of your life, when you could be doing something more interesting like digging your garden or washing windows..!!
