Sara Grey's life is torn apart 10 years ago when she looses her Dad to a horrific murder. 10 years on she is still haunted by that event, wanting to know answers to why her Dad was murdered and by whom.
Unexpectedly on moving to live with her Uncle, she befriends a Troll, of all creatures, dealing in the black market for the rarest of items. She starts chatting on forums about the supernatural world which gets her thinking about what really happened to her father, could it really have been Vampires? Before she knows it she is slap bang in the middle of the supernatural world, finding out that her own self is far from a normal human being.
Sara's life soon starts to spin out of control being hunted by a sadistic vampire, finding out her best friends are Werewolves, as well as meeting the warrior Nikolas on the same night, who is determined to protect her, even if it is the last thing she wishes for.
Sara has always been independent, surviving on her own; now however, it isn't just her life on the line. Her Uncle and friends are in life-threatening danger and in order to survive Sara must learn to open up and reveal her secrets and powers.
This is one of the most refreshing books I have read in a while, especially when it comes to Vampires, Werewolves and all of those creatures. Vampires that actually acted like Vampires, no shimmering in the light or secretly hero's and become the main character's happily ever after. The Werewolves fought against Vampires and didn't side up with them and the most refreshing part of this book, there was no soppy love story which ruined the main plot; it looks like there may be one set up for the future, but was lovely and subtle. I LOVED IT!
