Amazing masters of electropunk

Frustration is an incredible French rock band which is much deserving of wider attention. Their music is grounded in a visceral punk energy and attitude, but it rises above the thrashing crowd by virtue of its melodic intelligence and offbeat charm. Prime example is the incredible song "As They Say", which builds upon a catchy classic riff then dynamically drops back and rebuilds to a rousing climax. It is a rare song that stays fresh with repeated listening. Frustration are masters of musical construction. Consider the song "Too Many Questions". Its lyrics are simple and direct, and they anchor striking offbeat elements which are built layer by layer for stunning dramatic effect.
Equally stunning is the $49.99 Amazon is asking for the CD. The MP3 album at $7.99 is an obvious bargain. To be honest, I bought the CD directly from a French dealer. I do like the working-man graphical stylings of their CD packaging. But if I were you, I'd go for the MP3 album RIGHT NOW.

The [...] child of DEVO and Joy Division

This really was one of my favorite releases in 2008. The stylistic combination of DEVO and Joy Division is ( for me at least ) "two great tastes that go great together". It's got the immediacy of raw, rough, late seventies punk, but with odd, angular song structures that drip with post-industrial dystopian unease. Before I knew what happened, "Relax" had worked itself into my heavy rotation and inspired me to play more guitar.
With any luck, this French group will soon have U.S. distribution.
Frustration is definitely on my short list of bands to watch for.
