I found this book a very captivating piece of reading. The best about this book is that it gives a global understanding on how relationships work instead of giving very specific tips (like "buy her flowers and you will be happy"). That provides the reader with a very good basis for dealing with his/her own specific relationship or problem. I would call it a book for healthy relationships because it considers not only positive aspects (i.e. how to keep romance in your relationship etc) but also negative aspects (e.g. when it is better to seperate and how to survive that).

Relationships for Dummies has some good points, but it's definitely not for everyone.

The usual advice about communication and compatibility is present here, in a very clear and well laid-out form. And as a tool to help you think more rationally about what you want from a relationship, and how to get it, this could well be valuable.

However this book is very American in outlook, and as a British person I found it a difficult read at times. If you are not currently in a relationship, want to get married, and are happy to treat that journey like a business plan, this is the book for you. But be warned, there's not much room for romance here. Nor, in my opinion, is there much room for any relationship that doesn't fit a very traditional mould.

So, if you are comfortable with the idea of US-style 'dating' and want to draw up a battle plan, this is a good read. But if you are not, or are having problems with an existing relationship, I would look elsewhere - for instance the Relate guide to Better Relationships Better Relationships: Practical Ways to Make Your Love Last (Relate Guides).

I've always loved the 'For Dummies' books, and now they're available for Kindle! Hooray! The original books can be quite chunky and heavy to hold for a while but at least being on the Kindle you can do hours of reading without hurting your wrists :)
The book itself is captivating and keeps me interested for hours. There is some great information to soak up and the way its laid out makes it easy to read in sections and explains things in...well...dummy terms! Lol.

Overall, a great book. Never disappointed with the 'For Dummies' range. Also being on the Kindle, its cheaper than a paperback.

Good stuff :)
