From Amazon.co.uk

A solid enough thriller held together by some somewhat implausible plot devices, Deception stars Ben Affleck as Rudy, whose cellmate Nick is lucky enough to be pen-pal to the beautiful Ashley (Charlize Theron) who in turn has pledged herself, body and soul to the man inside whom she has never set eyes upon. Upon his release, Rudy decides to pose as Nick in order to take up with this luscious and adoring female. Unfortunately, the scheme backfires on Rudy when he discovers that Ashley was apparently a pawn in her ruthless brother Monster's game to coerce him into helping him and his gang of gun-runners rob a casino that Nick used to work in. Deception rumbles along at a pretty seedy, violent pace for a long time, with Rudy's efforts to escape resulting in Monster (a menacing Gary Sinise) using him as a dartboard in one memorably brutal scene. Following their raid on the casino, however (clad in Santa outfits), the plot takes a couple of devilish twists and turns which reward the viewer prepared to come this far down the road with these people. The lack of empathy may be redeemed by some viewers with a scene featuring Charlize Theron naked in a pool. --David Stubbs

Deception is a "Thriller" "Who dunnit" and "Action Adventure" rolled into one. It follows the misfortune of Rudy (Ben Affleck)as he is plunged into a dangerous scam to rob a Casino. It all starts when Rudy's cellmate Nick arranges to meet his penpal Ashley when both he and Rudy get released from jail in three days time. Unfortunatly Nick gets killed. So when Rudy gets out he see's Nick's penpal waiting for him and he feels sorry for her. So he pretends to be Nick. Only Rudy grows to wish he hadn't, Ashley has an extremly aggressive criminal for a brother who has been reading Nick's letters. Unfortunatly for Rudy, in these letters Nick has described in detail how he used to work as a security guard at the Casino, and now Angie's brother won't let Rudy go until he has helped him rob the Casino. The trouble is Rudy has never seen the Casino before in his life............but if he doesn't help he knows it will be the end of his life and confessing that he's not really Nick is not an option. Ashley's brother's not the forgive and forget type. Watch how the action adventure unfolds, with more twists and turns than you can imagine.....!!!!!!!
You're definatly not in for a boring evening if you settle down with this!

In this movie Ben Affleck plays Rudy a convict due for release. In a twist of fate Rudy takes his cell mates place in hooking up for the first time with Ashley (Rudy's cell mates pen pal). Everything from here on in is a case of Decieve or Decease! I love action movies and this one is a good one with plenty of action and pretty good acting from a well balenced cast.

Ok, I'm a Ben Affleck fan (yes, there are still some of us about) and so I may be slightly biased :-)

Deception (or it's American title, 'Reindeer Games') is the story of Rudy Duncan (Ben Affleck), a car thief, and his cellmate and best friend Nick who are two days away from being released from prison.
Rudy just wants to return home to his family, while Nick plans on meeting with his pen-pal girlfriend, Ashley (Charlize Theron). Unfortunately, a food fight breaks out in the prison cafeteria and Nick is killed, leaving Rudy with a dilemma. When he's released, at the last moment, he decides to pose as Nick, to Ashley.

For the first few days, Everything is great for Rudy and Ashley. However, returning back to the motel from some shopping, he's ambushed and beaten by Ashley's brother, Gabriel (Gary Sinise) and his men. Having read Nick's letters and discovering he'd worked as a security guard at the Tomahawk Casino, he plans to use Rudy (whom he thinks is Nick) to help him rob the casino. Rudy has to now find a way to convince everyone he's Nick and get out of this situation alive.

Ben Affleck is briliant at turning Rudy into a character who you root for and care about. Gary Sinise is, as usual, excellent but it's Charlize Theron who really steals the show.

Overall Deception is a good, fun film with some surprising twists!.

A more apt title would have been roller-coaster games. It's a solid plot with a series of surprising twists, in fact I can't say I have seen a film with more twists in it. Even without the twists, the story is juicy. Hell, they should've just called this film Lemons! Just when you think its become predictable and you have it all figured out, another twist unravels itself to blow your mind again. There are a few chuckles here and there but the whole film is somehow cleverly tinged with an air of comedy. Its full of heart-pumping action and keeps you guessing all the way to the end.

also known as ... Reindeer Games. I purchased a twin pack with "The Long Kiss Goodnight" at a cheap price years ago. The film "Reindeer Games" was unknown to me at the time but it was well worth watching. Twists and turns galore and a surprise finale. One for the collection!

This film seems to have gone almost un-noticed, not heard of it before but when I saw the cast, I thought it should be pretty good. Also known as Reindeer games on region 1. The story is that a guy released from prisoner meets his cellmates pen friend played by the beautiful Charlize Theron. She has never seen the guy she has been writing to so he decides to be him. However her violent brother turns up wanting to know all about a casino he used to work in so he can rob it! So he now has to bluff what he knows because he has never worked there. There are some good ideas in the story and plot line although it does get a bit twisted towards the end. It has a slight low budget feel to it but overall not bad for a rent but far from a classic. 6/10
