So apparently this will be a 3D BluRay disc. There's also the DVD version. But no "regular" BluRay? That would be a huge disappointment. I don't own a 3D BluRay player, but still want the better picture quality. Also it would look kind of weird having everything starting with series 5 as BD box sets on my shelf, and suddenly it's a DVD again.

Nanny Ogg says:
It does? Because it says "number of discs: 1" in the item description. Ah well, will just have to wait and see then...

J. Martin says:
The 3D and 2D version of the episode will likely be on the same disc, because all the 2D version will be is the left-hand image of the 3D version.

Ah, thanks. Have never seen it done that way before, so didn't think it was possible. Good news then :)

Yeah, it'll be on the same disc. My version of Dredd has both 2D and 3D on the same disc, and if you put it in a non 3D BD player, the 3D option says it cannot play, but the 2D runs fine. No drop in quality for having both, either! I love it now we live in the future. :-)

Neal Vincent says:
Yes, it'll play in 2D or 3D. There are already a few other Blu-rays that offer 2D and 3D versions on the same disc - Dredd, Drive Angry, and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance spring to mind.

I am rather annoyed that having this pre-ordered since September with first class delivery, Amazon have not dispatched it in time for it to arrive on release day, now saying estimated delivery of Tuesday 3rd December. Thinking of cancelling order and just getting it from a shop.

have just seen this email from amazon

"Hello,

I understand that, you want to buy this item "Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor - 50th Anniversary Special [Blu-ray 3D]".

I would like to confirm that, it is 3 D and 2D version."

hopefully that should resolve this

now they tell me its 3D only, wish someone would make their mind up in amazon

M. Walker says:
I'm pretty sure it will be watchable on 2D hardware also, as that is what it says on the BBC shop, and I do not believe that 2 different blu-ray versions are being issued. I'd imagine that some of the customer service people who have replied to you just look at the info that says '3D Blu-Ray' and assume that it is only 3D.

hy would the BBC do a 3d only and a 2d only release? Wouldnt it make more sense for the bbc to do a 2d/3d release on the same disc?

C. J. Leader says:
