Although Richard has a loyal following I'm still surprised that he is still under appreciated, he is one of the best song writers I have come across. There are some songs which are a little experimental.
I don't think there are any bad songs on this album but there are some real stand out tracks.
Tethered - "I found a way to make it right, I put you out of my mind & out of my life" -
The next time I see you - a feel break up song, really good lyrics that ring true for so many people.
Regret less - the title track is the best song on the album, if you do nothing else today listen to this song !
I can't recommend this any more highly, buy this album & then go see him live. If you are lucky it will be in a small venue & it will be amazing
Certain songs evoke Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith's troubled, raw, vulnerability, whilst others have a tremulous up-beat positivity, a suggestion of better things to come.
That being said, anyone looking for some light listening should probably leave now, because there is no word to describe this record other than heartfelt, particularly tracks such as my personal favorite - 'Redwoods' (with lyrics written specially for the album by poet Simon Armitage CBE), or the tear-jerking 'Tethered'.
Ethereal, dark and at the same time positive, this album is Walters' most complete record to date, and should find a place in every music lovers' collection.
When I found he was touring in the UK I booked to see him at The Live Room Saltaire, Bradford. Making sure I was there as doors opened at 7pm in order to avoid the crush and get a good spot I found nobody else there; so I had the pick: front seat right in front of the mic. When Richard was introduced just an hour later there were only thirty people to hear him, only thirty. Where were they all? l wanted to say, "Don't worry Richard, everyone here loves your music." But he began by thanking us for coming out on such a bad night and then launched into a solo set of his sublime songs with his voice of pure wonder, stunning in its power, mercurial quality and richness: highlight The Escape Artist. After a short interval he was joined by Martin Radford on cello and this simple yet effortless mix of guitar, cello and voice perfectly suited the melodious and melancholic songs including songs on this album Tomorrow Begins and Infinity Street. It was so intimate it was if he was singing just for me! Where were the thousands who should have been there to hear him?
Sadly, he announced his retirement from touring after his short Autumn 2013 tour ends. He can make more money writing for US tv and films than live gigs. What a loss.
The only way you can hear him now is to listen to this cd and his other material including 'Animals' and the 'Two Birds' EP.Read more ›

The magic of Damien Rice meets the vocals of Ben Howard with a sprinkling of the poetry of Clifford T. Ward. I loved it. It is mature, rounded and full. Read morePublished on 12 Nov. 2013 by Amazon Customer
