By the end she is close to breaking point, and only needs to make the final act of submission.

I'm surprised as well as pleased, as it's a very simple story, and I was worried it might be too strong for many readers. That's mainly just me being bad, but I am trying to make a point, which is that, like Annabelle, some insecure submissive SMers initially present themselves as dominant and project their fantasies onto others, often very strong fantasies. Thus, as Annabelle subjects my alter ego to harsher and harsher elements of the regime, she is both exploring and justifying her own need for submission. Only by doing this is she able to accept her own sexuality, hence the ending, which isn't supposed to be a twist. She made the bet in the hope that she would lose it.
