Over 75 minutes of Styx Classics re-recorded by the current Styx line-up.
What you won't find on here are the ballards penned by Dennis DeYoung, so naturally this set concentrates on those classics written by Tommy Shaw & James Young and those rockier tracks co-written with DeYoung. In some respects that helps the flow of this 2 disk set and reflects Styx as they are today on stage in their song selection.

What is so surprising is that all the parts were recorded by each member of the band in different studios, although the production & mastering are so good that you'd be hard pushed to notice. There are the classics you'd expect, 'Fooling Yourself', 'Come Sail Away' & 'Renegade'; plus two tracks Shaw penned with Damn Yankees and one new song 'Difference in the World' which fit in perfectly with the older songs.

Canadian Lawrence Gowan who replaced DeYoung over a decade ago now, takes on his keyboard & vocal parts with aplomb - a new slant on those songs make this re-recording sound fresher than ever.

Perhaps because recording, engineering and mastering technics have advanced so much over the years, this regeneration of old classics sounds better than the original recordings. The musicianship is outstanding as you'd expect, and Tommy Shaw's vocals have, if anything, improved with age.

Highly recommended to any Styx fan and if you don't have any of their previous albums, this is a good place to start.

I guess as a fan of Styx and Journey over the years ( win-win in 2011!), what i was hoping for from this album was a similar offering to Journeys "Revelations- disc 2" which, without offering anything groundbreakingly new, brought the story right up to date with the current lead singer, and in my view, added a fresh energy to the old songs. "Regenerations" makes good use of the most up to date recording techniques, adds in a couple of great new tracks albeit with some Damn Yankees material, introduces the manifest talents of Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman, and Rickie Philips, who i think help to rejuvinate the bands style, energy, and drive, and presents here a selection of the classic tracks from the bands rich back catologue, which are technicaly as good, and in most cases, make for a preferable listen to the originals. As with Journeys "Revelations", i prefer to listen to the new versions now, both albums represent where the bands are today, which i think is what matters. This c.d is a record of the band that i saw twice last summer, and had me falling for them all over again!! Even Lorelie, which is not my favourite track, sounds good here! I hope Styx give us a new studio album soon, "Cyclorama" was good and this line up certainly has a lot to offer if the fabulous live show and this re-recording is anything to go by!
Lawrence Gowan was a total revelation at Wembley and the LG arena, Todd Suchermans druming makes a big improvement to the the classic tracks, and Rickie Philips is rock solid on bass. If your a Styx fan then tommy and jy need no introduction! 5 stars-no question!

I have been a Styx fan since before I could walk. The first albums I ever owned were Paradise Theater and Edge of the century and will probably be the last albums I listen to... ever.

After having the pleasure of seeing the band live I must say it's great to hear them perform these classic songs on cd. Not only do they bring their own "thing" to each song but the production value is fantastic. Obviously, the new recordings do not have the charm of the originals. That would be pretty hard to do but considering most of these songs were recorded over 30 years ago they sounds great being recorded after such a long period in time.

Not only is this a great cd but it supports one of the finest groups of musicians in american music. I highly recommend this for Styx fans and casual fans all the same.

Initially i had though this was another compilation, however i realised after reading some reviews it was actually rerecordings.

Irritatingly it could fit on one disc rather than 2 but at theses prices i couldnt resist.

superb versions of accepted classics sit alongside album tracks such as 'Miss America' and 'Queen of Spades',with two covers of DAMN YANKEES' tracks and 1 new song.

Given that Tommy Shaw and J J Young were the driving force its no surprise that its weighted towards the heavy rock tracks, amazingly 'Rockin the Paradise' is absent.

This is a decent release well worth investing in.styx re-invigorated
