5.0 out of 5 stars Boxing commentator tells his life story, 20 Jul 2001
By Gareth W. Francis (Swansea) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Reg Gutteridge has covered some of the biggest fights in boxing history including Ali vs Foreman, Hagler vs Hearns. A fairly promising boxer in his youth his career was ended due to an injury received in WW2. Though devastating to a young athlete Mr.Gutteridge tells us he felt a secret relief at not being able to pursue his career as a boxer and how it led indirectly to his career as a commentator and travelling all over the world. Having seen some of the best fighters of all time including Ali, Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson he has some interesting stories to tell including the time he met the terryfying and perhaps misunderstood Sonny Liston a man who made Mike Tyson look like a teddy bear. I would recommend this book to any boxing fan, from hard core to those with a passing interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly readable, maintains interest throughout., 26 May 2002
By magicmoy@a.o.l.com (Bolton, England) - See all my reviews
Best read for ages, full of funny and intersting anecdotes about the best boxers who have ever lived. Humble, well written, one of the only books I have read without a dull paragraph. Exactly what a book about boxing should be. What more needs to be said.
