TO REFUSE HIM ONCE WAS A MISTAKE – TO REFUSE HIM TWICE WOULD BE MADNESS! Viscount Rothersthorpe can’t tear his eyes from Lydia Morgan any more than he can calm the raging fury coursing through his veins. Is there no end to the irony? Come to town to find a wife, only to be taunted by the past? Furtive glances across the ballroom are not helping to ease Lydia’s state of shock – the man who once uttered a marriage proposal as one might remark upon the weather has returned. But when he stuns her with a second, outrageous but now wickedly delicious proposal, it is clear that despite the rumours the rake from her past has not reformed!

About the Author

Annie Burrows love of stories meant that when she was old enough to go to university, she chose to do English literature. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do beyond that, but one day, when her youngest child was at senior school, she began to wonder if all those daydreams that had kept her mind occupied whilst carrying out mundane chores, would provide similar pleasure to other women. She was right... and Annie hasn't looked back since!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as I had imagined 4 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
**Contains spoilers** The heroine is a widow and a mother and step-mother. She married an older man and has borne a child. We later learn that her first love was Viscount Rothersthorpe and that they did not marry due to a misunderstanding. The story is well written, however I was disappointed that the heroine was a widow and not the usual innocent. I like my romances light-hearted. There was too much realism for me, with the mental health issues. I have read and enjoyed previous Annie Burrows books; The Viscount & The Virgin & Never Trust a Rake, but this was not one of her best.

1.0 out of 5 stars Jerk + No Backbone = Happily Ever After? 2 Jun 2013
By Suzanne Rice - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
About 40% into the book I considered quitting reading it, but decided to stick it out. The hero, Viscount Rothersthorpe, is a jerk with a capital J. All through the book, he treats the heroine, Lydia Morgan, badly. And she doesn't get a backbone until the very end of the book to stand up to him and explain the misunderstandings from their past, and even then her backbone comes and goes. Then at the end of the book, she keeps blaming herself for not having trusted him enough when they were younger. He accuses her basically of not being a mind reader. She should have known he really did want to marry her, he really did love her. Yet, as a younger man, he kept saying over and over that he didn't want to marry, he wasn't looking for a bride, and yet it's supposedly her fault for not being able to figure out that he didn't really mean that. I would have told this guy to take a hike. Most of these books have a big misunderstanding that could be cleared up if the main characters would sit down in chapter 2 and have a good talk for about ten minutes, but then I guess that would make it a short story instead of a novel. However, this character didn't just misunderstand something. He was arrogant and demeaning and cruel and a big JERK. And the heroine meant well, but barely stood up for herself and let him walk all over her and then she blames herself for all their misunderstandings.

2.0 out of 5 stars fair rating 10 July 2013
By dreamon - Published on Amazon.com

Our viscount and lady fell in love when they were young: he of disreputable and broke family -she had only one season to find a husband or her guardian will toss her out. He does not tell her he loves her/ too afraid she will say no with his bad Rep and she accepts a proposal from another though she loves him having no idea how he feels. He us bitter throws himself into working to save his estate. A few years later she is a widow and the meet again. Where he is still an idiot and is angry at her for the rest of the book until the very end and she explains her side of the story.she has- few secrets if her own she didn't tell him..but no reason she should since he was being unreasonable. Overall our viscount isn't too bright .

I loved this one. Hero and heroine were very believeable and I like the way they were brought together. This is only my opinion but I enjoyed the light reading of this one.
