4.0 out of 5 stars 3 Great Short English Romances...too bad there isn't more! 14 May 2010
By Regan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I purchased this book based on the single 5 star review. I thought it was three novels combined into a special edition since the tales were separately available. I did not realize that they are basically three short stories. Each is about an English rake in the noble class who indulges his passions freely as a single man, but ultimately falls in love with a good woman through various circumstances leading to marriage. While no time period is given (an oversight that should be cured), it is still the time of carriages and the ton so I'm thinking it's the early 19th century, or maybe late 18th. My biggest complaint about these stories is that they are over just as they get going. I would have wanted each story to be a full fledged novel. Her writing is very good and certainly would hold my interest for 400 pages. As it is, since they are so short, while there is a lot of sex (and that well described), the plots are quite simple and there is no time for complex character development. Still I can recommend them and I enjoyed each of them. As a warning to those who do not like short stories, I note that she has written in this manner in other series (Seducing The Highlander being the most recent example out this month, May 2010). I will read more of hers as I like her writing, but I am really hoping for a longer story next time. That would justify a 5 star rating, I'm sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Letter 26 Jan 2009
By MNix - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Jared Warren, Duke of Tellbourne, is tired of the antics of his wife. If she won't listen to him, he's determined to show her the error of her ways. After he drags her away from a scandalous play, he comes up with a form of punishment they both enjoy.

Patricia is annoyed by her husband's autocratic decisions, but she can't find fault with his particular brand of punishment. To her surprise, she enjoys their newly passionate lovemaking much more than the bloodless couplings they shared before. Can Patricia stay out of trouble and in her husband's good graces?

The Letter is a hotter than usual but otherwise fairly standard Regency tale. There's the stubborn, headstrong wife, Patricia, and the bossy husband who's concerned with propriety, Jared. There are also other stock characters, such as a jealous former flame of Jared's. All of these elements come together to form a story that, while predictable in some ways, is entertaining. The Letter has a bit of something for everyone, from ballroom intrigue, to action, to hot sex scenes. If you like Regencies with more spice than usual, you'll probably enjoy The Letter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great reading! 14 May 2009
By Marilyn Morton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I am an avid fan of Emma Wildes, read everything she writes. Love the action, the way she makes her characters so sexy, fun, etc. Many books are too long, take forever to get to the point but this book could have kept going. The plot was such that she could have included more characters and I could keep reading and stop only to eat. She needs to write more! Thank goodness I am retired, partially home bound and I have her books to look forward to. Plot grabs you from very beginning.
3.0 out of 5 stars Better story than style 20 Feb 2014

The sex in this story is a bit too explicit to be exiting and spoils an otherwise fairly good story.
5.0 out of 5 stars I buy anything with Emma Wildes name on it! 17 Feb 2013

This was really a sweet story. So often in the regency romance series we have the heroine waiting till the hero tells her those 3 word she wants to hear and then all is well. There was a different twist here in how he did this.

A duke marries a very young woman based on her outward charms. He has no plans for this marriage to be anything else other than the use of her suitable charms to conceive an heir. However, her immature behavior in society forces him to take notice of her so that his duchess will not embariss him publically. His plan to increase thier time having sex appears to be the answer for his so called wayward wife. His truly sweet innocent wife has other ideas.

One of the things I like about Emma Wildes' books is that she does not "hint" about sex. Her descriptions are detailed enough that I can picture what is happening. My degree is in science so I guess I like books that discuss the experiments in detail.

Good read but in a sweet "tongue in cheek" way.
