I bought this scanner in March to replace an existing scanner which had become obsolete. The product is well made, is compact and has a small footprint on my desk. The scanner is simple to use, produces excellent results and the software easy to understand. I would recommend this device to anyone with a serious interest in digitizing their old slides/film.

Forget multi-purpose flatbed scanners and get a film scanner. This only does 35mm film but it does it exceptionally well. Without any sharpening necessary in software, results are crisp at 3600ppi (it's been independently measured as having a true resolution not far below this; most scanners claiming resolution of 7200ppi and above are actually a lot worse than this one). That's enough to make a fine 15" x 10" print and to bring out the best in my Leica lenses.
It is also a fairly fast scanner and the ICE dust removal works well unless you're using traditional b/w film, for which ICE needs to be turned off (silver grains reflect infrared just like dust, so it doesn't work). The supplied software is OK although you may prefer VueScan or Silverfast to interface with it.
One minor criticism is that scans can show "banding" if the scanner gets warm. If this happens just switch it off, wait a moment then switch it back on to recalibrate itself. If you're in a hurry or have decades' worth of films to scan you'll need to pay a lot more for something with automatic feed. For £244 I can live with such things.

If you are a Mac user, be aware that this scanner uses Cyberview X as its driver, and there is no Intel native version of the driver yet. This makes this scanner useless in Lion, since the latest OS doesn't support Rosetta.
