Book Description

1 Dec 2001 McGraw-Hill Telecom Professional
The OSI (Open System Interconnection) reference model is the basis of modern data network design, but it underlines the public switched telephone network (PSTN) as well. For voice engineers learning how to send services over data networks, and for Internet engineers learning how to tap into the PSTN, the OSI model is an ideal point of reference. This book covers roles, functions, definitions and the fundamentals that are required of entry-level personnel.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very helpful 6 April 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book was an extremely poor pick. The theory behind the OSI Reference Model is not given at all. The first 3 layers are covered to some basic extent. Overall, the book seems to be a series of long PowerPoint presentations put together in book format. By PowerPoint presentations, I am referring to each page being a list of "bullet-point" phrases that is only there to give a reader a guideline for the lecture she is hearing. Unfortunately, there is no accompanying lecture, so the presentation is totally useless. Altogether, this was a waste of money.

This book is very helpful. It is hard to find a book which merges telecommunication concepts with computer technology concepts. This book was well worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars OSI Reference Model for Telecommunications 12 April 2002
By Wayne Conrad - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I thought the book was very helpful. The book provided a great connection between the OSI Reference model and a telecommunications environment. Both of these enties have to work together and the approach in this book made it helpful to understand. The diagrams were also helpful and I found the approach of itemizing the information instead of paragraph form made it easier find me information and go on.
