This is a wonderful coffee table book, full of glossy colour photos of the undersea world. There are amazing pictures of tiny creatures and corals, interspersed with the usual shark images. I was particularly impressed with the author's introductory essay which supplies insight into why he captures the images he does and makes the reader more aware of how fragile our reef ecosystems are.
All schools should have a copy of this book in their school library.

I love books about fish. There is always the mystery of mermaids about where they live. The book is beautiful with pictures you can fall into. Pictures of bizarre fish, some gem like fish, some look as though they were designed by Ikea and others look hand knitted! Always very interesting.

Reefs Revealed is Spectacular! 2 Mar. 2008
By H. S. Williams - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Once in a decade a photographer comes along who finds a way to bring us images no one else has ever captured. Alex Mustard has taken in all the lessons of the greats who have gone before and taken underwater digital photography to the next level. If you love the ocean you simply must have this book. It is truly a impressive work. I've read it four times so far, the first time for the shear joy of the images, the second for the science and knowledge that accompanies each image, the third time I read the book last night I concentrated on the photographic details included with each image. This book is easily worth twice the price as an underwater photography lesson alone, though that's clearly not its purpose. The fourth time through it, I reveled in the way the book flows and engages the reader to turn the page to see what's next. I love the way Alex makes the case for protecting the reefs of the world without hitting people over the head with it.
Reefs Revealed won the Prix Mondial Du Livre D'Image Sous-Marine (World Prize for Underwater Photo Book) at the Antibes Festival. Dr. Mustard joins the likes of Doubilet, Newbert, Amsler, Wu and Ballesta whose books have won this coveted award. Because it's published in the UK, Amazon has not seen fit to stock it yet. Don't let the fact that Amazon doesn't stock this great book yet affect your purchase.
It's an amazing book.

A biologist at play 14 July 2008
By Under Exposed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
It was a delight to read this book of beautiful images and thoughtful text by marine-biologist-turned-photographer Alex Mustard. The book's title is apt; Mustard has a good eye and good technique as a photographer, and his insight into the biology makes the images and the text much more successful. Alex Mustard stands out from the crowd as someone who does not mindlessly repeat the established dogma (whether it's the rule-of-thirds or the folk science of octopus mimicry). My only complaints are about the chromatic aberration in some of those Nikon lenses, and sadly the binding on my copy of the book disintegrated fairly quickly.

A master! 9 Sept. 2008

Alex Mustard is my idol. He put the art of underwater photography in another level. He teach us a new way to look the marine criatures. However I think the book design is not so good as the pictures. Sorry.

Dr Alex Mustard is an outstanding underwater macro photographer, and has produced a very nice coffee table book that both any macro photographer and any open water SCUBA diver would appreciate.
