5.0 out of 5 stars Good value cross trainer., 28 Jan 2012
This review is from: Reebok Z9 Elliptical Cross Trainer (Misc.)
I've just yesterday received this Reebok Z9 elliptical, I chose it because the 9kg flywheel is heavier than most at this price (£289), it has a reasonable 15" stride for my 5ft 7" height (bigger strides cost more) and is shorter than a lot of the competition so takes up less room, plus the display is backlit and some aren't.

It took about 4 hours to put together which was straightforward, tools are supplied but a decent small cross head screwdriver will make it a bit easier to get into awkward places. I've only used it a few times so far, but having assembled it I would rate it as a robust build quality, the welds look OK, the metal is quite thick, and decent size coach bolts hold the larger items on. There are 2 wheels on the front legs to aid moving the trainer around, and height adjusters on the back legs to level it on uneven floors. The pedals can be moved into 3 positions with a total 2.5" movement available. The machine looks modern and is quite smart.

In operation, the display is much bigger than I expected and is great, being colour and backlit. The 12 programs are effective, varying the magnetic resistance automatically throughout and the resistance and lots of other parameters can be altered if wanted. If using manual control it's really easy to adjust the resistance on the display with the up/down buttons. The machine runs very quietly and smoothly, and the 9v power pack runs cool. All good really. I've always had problems with pulse monitors and this one is no exception, it works OK if you don't move your hands much; the sensors are only on the stationary arms like all other similarly priced trainers. The manual seems to be saying you can press the Recovery button (to see how fit you are) any time, but it only seems to work if you're on the pulse detectors before you press the button, I'm still experimenting here.

Conclusion......... I like it a lot (so far).
