These weights are great.
Well-made, comfortable, adjustable.
For an average-height female, my wrists are small-to-medium and my ankles are probably medium, and these weights fit on both my wrists and ankles: the velcro is wide enough to accomodate a range of sizes.
The sand (or whatever it is) that provides the "weight" does not shift around, which is a problem with some brands of ankle/wrist weights.
The thumb holes fit my thumbs and are somewhat stretchy, so I would expect that most female customers would not need to rip some of the stitching out, like one of the previous reviewers of this product did.
It's been a few years since I have done any strength training. Besides carrying supermarket bags, my arms do not get much of a regular workout, so I thought I'd buy the lightest weights in this product range and work my way up.
I was surprised to find that these 0.5 kilogram weights are not very challenging for my arms. I expected that after my first upper body workout (with a pretty extensive set of different exercises), the next day my muscles would be a little sore, but I didn't feel a thing. Same experience after the second such workout I did 3 days later.
This weight level does feel that it will be a little more challenging for my legs. I am working up to using them on my legs by doing a lower body workout without any weights for now.
I have returned to this site to buy a heavier set for my arms.
It isn't possible to double these up by fastening 2 of them around one limb at the same time, which I could do with some previous wrist/ankle weights that I had, so that is a little disappointing.
However, you can grasp 2 of them (unfastened and lying flat) at once with one hand, which is a little like holding a slightly floppy, soft dumbbell (you can attach them to each other by lining up their velcro fasteners). Of course, that means that if I want to do my upper body exercises with 1 kilo of weight, I can hold both 0.5 kilo weights with one hand. Naturally, this requires a bit more workout time than being able to exercise both arms at once. This arrangement is not too unwieldy for me to do my standing/sitting/lying-down exercises with, but it would not be comfortable to hold them in that manner while walking for exercise.
I don't claim to be an expert in exercise equipment, but I've owned 2 or 3 pairs of wrist/ankle weights in the past 25 years, and over the past few years I've mulled over buying a new set of ankle/wrist weights and I have had a look at what was on offer whenever I was in a store that carried them, and I've never seen a set of ankle/wrist weights of better quality as these.
Note: It's always safer to start at a manageable weight, so I don't regret having tried this size first. I would recommend this weight for any female who is new to weight training (or coming back to it after a long gap), unless she's quite fit generally, or unless her doctor or gym instructor (etc.) advises otherwise.
