Book Description

1 Feb 2010
Roy Joslin, an inner-London pastor, battled with Parkinson's Disease for 33 years. The painful task of sorting through his papers soon became a profound and therapeutic experience for his widow as distant memories came into sharper focus, showing how God had led them through the years 'in sickness and in health'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unsung heroes of urban life 3 Mar 2011
This work is all genuineness - no fancy wit or writerly flourish, just from the heart, nothing embellished. For me, as a non-believer,it is salutary, humbling, sobering, restorative of belief in genuine love and devotion. I think of `purity of heart is to will one thing` (Kierkegaard). Here are a couple who resisted the gentleness of middle-class life to devote themselves to the service of their God without limit. Life offered them much pain and hardship. Roy mastered the early onset of Parkinson`s disease for many years. If you think life makes no sense, read this and think: light shines best in darkness.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating Read 29 Jun 2010

As one who devoured and greatly benefitted from Roy Joslin's seminal book "Urban Harvest" in the 80's, and had heard of his tragically early death, it was fascinating to read the background to his life and that of his wife Valerie, to see the way in which this couple devoted themselves to Christian ministry, and to see how "Urban Harvest" sprang from their experiences in a London Pastorate, and Roy's vision as to how to reach city dwellers with the gospel. Its a book well worth reading, and a book to encourage you to read "Urban Harvest" if you haven't already.
