Product Description

CD Description

Third album from Canadian emo-punk band follows 2003's 'AreWe Really Happy With Who We Are Right Now'. The result of along and difficult recording process which saw them workingwith punk uber-producer Brian McTernan (Thrice, Hot Water Music), the album treats punk as a springboard to something more grandiose. The complex songwriting and instrumental prowess give the album epic scope and have seen the band likenedas much to the post-rock genre as to bands like The Get Up Kids and Funeral For A Friend.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Red Tree, 9 May 2006
By A. Rowlinson (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Red Tree (Audio CD)
Is Moneen really happy with who they are right now? They really ought to be, considering the fact that their new album, The Red Tree is less than a week away from rocking off the nation's proverbial socks. Almost three years since their last album, Moneen has had more than enough time to shape this album and refine their sound. If you don't know who Moneen is, it's about time you learned.

The Red Tree jumps right into the action with a high energy track which serves as a solid precursor to the rest of the album. The production quality is fantastic; it allows the album to be noisy, yet epic in its own right. Lyrically and musically, The Red Tree does not disappoint.

With most of the songs having a simliar feel, The Red Tree's only weakness is a lack of variety. Each song has its own personality, but most of the album is in your face with its blistering rock riffs and progressions. This makes for an outstanding live performance, but some listeners may find that this CD is one they'll spin when the mood is right. Without many ballads, this album breaks the standard formula for rock and roll, but stands strong with many solid songs, nonetheless.

In conclusion, The Red Tree by Moneen is a success. If you're a fan of Moneen, The Get Up Kids, or just some good rock and roll, you'll want to pick up The Red Tree.
