This collection is not for the faint at heart - Margo Lanagan's imaginative, creative and descriptive stories depict the darker regions of fantasy. Though not every story may appeal to your tastes, you are sure to find a handful of delightful treats in here. What an eclectic and satisfying collection of Gothic short fiction...my favorites were Daughter of the Clay, Under Hell Over Heaven and Winkie.

This is an extraordinary book, and one that I wholeheartedly recommend. Fans of Angela Carter in particular will love it. It's a collection of different stories, some frightening, some disturbing, some funny. Most take their inspiration from fairy tales (there are bogeymen galore) and like the best fairy tales they explore the psyche. (Check out the opening story though which is a reworking of Lynne Reid Banks' children's classic The Indian in the Cupboard!) It's on a children's list, and I'd definitely recommend it to teens too. Can't wait to read more by this author.

If you like something a little out of left field, then this book is for you!
Dark, moody and fantastical. A beautiful writer with an amazing imagination! I found I wanted more and more.

A rare gothic delight.
