SHORTLISTED FOR CRIME FICTION BOOK OF THE YEAR
(Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards 2012)

THE SERIAL KILLER
A missing schoolgirl is found buried in the Dublin Mountains, hands clasped together in prayer, two red ribbons in her hair. Twenty-four hours later, a second schoolgirl is found in a shallow grave - her body identically arranged.
The hunt for the killer is on.

THE CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGIST
The police call in profiler Dr Kate Pearson to get inside the mind of the murderer before he strikes again. But the more Kate discovers about the killings, the more it all feels terrifyingly familiar . . .

THE ACCUSED WOMAN
As the pressure to find the killer intensifies there's one vital connection to be made - Ellie Brady, a mother institutionalised fifteen years earlier for the murder of her daughter Amy. She stopped talking when everyone stopped listening.

What connects the death of Amy Brady to the murdered schoolgirls. As Kate Pearson begins to unravel the truth, danger is closer than she knows . . .

Red Ribbons is the gripping debut from an exciting new voice in psychological crime fiction.

Once I started Red Ribbons it was hard to put down.
As the story developed and the connections started to reveal themselves the pace of the plot increased and the speed of my reading did the same.
I'm a big fan of Criminal Minds so loved the profiling aspect of the story.
This is such a gripping and thrilling read.
Cannot wait for Louise Philips to publish her next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Ribbons wins my Blue Riband 10 Sep 2012
Format:Paperback
A great piece of fiction especially from a debut author. Louise Phillips moves effortlessly between the voices of the three protagonists. The dialogue also is realistic and convincing. With such an amount of dialogue it's easy to get it wrong here and there, but every line works. The delicate themes of this novel are treated with great sensitivity - not an easy task. Finally the author managed to wrong-foot me not once but twice in the denouement. Above all this story has a constant momentum, from the start to the finish - I read the 115K words over a weekend.

This is a fine piece of psychological crime fiction from a debut author. Kate Pearson, the central character, is a complex, intriguing subject and I hope we will learn more of her cases and personal tribulations in future novels from the author.

I recommend "Red Ribbons" to fans of the psychological thriller, of the crime novel and of well-written fiction in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Thriller set in Ireland 25 Mar 2013
By C. Bannister TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the perfect example of a good thriller, there is a cohesive plot line, not too many instances where the reader has to suspend belief and characters who you feel you know.

Red Ribbons is told from three main different viewpoints. Dr Kate Pearson who is a psychologist helping the police to discover the profile of a killer. A young girl was found buried in Dublin Mountains with red ribbons in her hair, soon afterwards another young girl is found, again with unknown red ribbons. Ellie Brady who is a patient in an asylum, incarcerated 14 years previously and our killer who is bored of his job, his colleagues and brooding over the recent death of his mother. As a reader there are plenty of clues to fit together, including how does Ellie's story connect to those of the recent dead girls? The Police are battling against time to stop the killer taking any more young lives and Kate is doing her best to guide them in the right direction whilst dealing with a less than happy domestic situation.

I found this book totally absorbing; one that I had to keep reading to find out how all the pieces of the puzzle would fit together. I am delighted to hear Louise Phillips has written The Doll's House due out August 2013.
