3.0 out of 5 stars Shame! 16 Nov 2012

I'm a big Andy McNab fan, having read all his books this year (bar the books for kids), twice (at least!). I love his style, real, gritty, and described so you feel like you are there.

However unfortunately this book feels like its written by someone else. The two main characters are dull and feel like superficial, hollywood-ish stereotypes, not his usual interesting, 'real' characters. Plot was OK, but a bit simple and not up to Andy McNab's usual standard. The book felt like it was written by someone copying Andy McNab's style, but missing out all the key ingredients that make his books bloomin' fantastic.

Damn shame, all in all!

Having said all that, I still enjoyed reading it, but would never recommend it to anyone, as I think it just doesn't live up to McNab's marvellous standards!

3.0 out of 5 stars Change of style? 10 Nov 2012

A departure for McNab's usual terse, no-nonsense style at times - more reflective and more about 'relationships' - personally not to my taste. Bring back Nick Stone, please!

1.0 out of 5 stars Red Notice 1 Jan 2013

I'm a massive Andy McNab fan, read everything he has published and so I'm clinging to the hope that this book was written by his brother! The plot is formulaic and predictable, the characterisation is thin and unbelievable and littered with Hollywoodish passages like "she suddenly knew with absolute certainty that he would die rather than see her harmed. And that dying was not part of his plan." I'm so sad to say that this is really not worthy of the McNab name. Pleased to see that he is doing more than Nick Stone, but this isn't up to the high standards of so many previous books.
