Merci Rayborn has moved on. Following the birth of her child, her original career aspirations have a significant diversion. She has two cases to deal with, one current and one unsolved from many years ago. In the present it is her lover that looks the culprit. Although ultimately it's the past case that causes perhaps the most disruption to her private life. Both cases centre on betrayal and cover up, with a challenging interweaving plot. The scenes where Merci has taken work home with her and still notices and enjoys her child are well written, clearly showing the conflict of interests she faces. In this book Merci is softening and continuing to learn from her previous love interest, Hess. Character development is good and I'm wondering what is next for Merci Rayborn.
