The biggest band of the new millennium? Certainly no one else has dominated the music scene in recent years like the Chili's. From the bad boys of Funk Rock, swinging their socks, to a world wide phenomenon. This is an in-depth analysis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on record, on stage and on film. Drawing on global archives, with interviews with the band and extensive performance footage, the colossus that is the Chilis is here put under the microscope. Further insight is supplied by Andy Gill, producer of their debut album and D. H Peligro, drummer for punk legends Dead Kennedys and occasional drummer for the Chilis. An extensive book features rare photographs of the band in performance and other artwork, and an intricate analysis of the music of the Chilis and the sound that went from the hip-hop end of funk-rock to the sophistication of well crafted songs that began with the reintroduction of Frusciante. Featured tracks include: Give It Away, Suck My Kiss, If You Have To Ask, Aeroplane, Under The Bridge, Power Of Equality and more!

This is a borderline rip-off DVD. It contains interviews with a few journalists and musicians, which guide the viewer through the Chili Peppers' career (up until, and including, "By the Way"). Not much new insight. The footage of the Chili Peppers consists of lots of very small clips from videos and performances, often with (here it comes) the soundtrack being versions of their songs as performed by a cover band. This is obviously due to copyright issues, but it make the DVD a painful watch. Especially when the commentators with great seriousness describe the deep interplay between Flea and Frusciante, while we hear some cover band play! Save your money!

A bit dissapointing 6 July 2007

I was a little bit sketchy about buying this dvd as there were no reviews on it... i am a HUGE chilis fan absoultly love them to bits but this dvd was a bitc dissapointing. Has some old footage of the band which i haven't seen before but it is basically a short film about how the band formed and who has been part of it over the years. And i recommend to anyone that has read Scar tissue that they don't buy the dvd because in my opinon Anthony gave a more in depth discussion on the band over the years and i got more out of reading the book which is a fantastic read for any chilis fans!! Also on the back of the dvd/book cover it says it has in depth interviews with the band... The footage has absolutly no interviews with any band member whatsoever!! Probably the only thing i liked was the book that had an analysis of each song they've ever recorded minus the stadium arcadium album.
