5.0 out of 5 stars You Will Be Up & Running In No Time, 7 Mar 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Red Hat Linux Bible - Fedora and Enterprise Edition (Paperback)
I searched long and hard for a book to get me started using Linux. This looked easy to follow and, more importantly, not too hard to read. Ideal for quite advanced Windows users taking their first steps in Linux. Moves at a pace that may frighten those who don't like to get their hands dirty under the bonnet, but then they probably aren't queuing up to try Linux.
The only downer is that it glosses over the issue of the Linux shell commands - I guess that needs a whole book on its own.
Big plus for us rural dwellers on dial up is the inclusion of the full 3 CD package of Fedora Core 1. This book also has good coverage of networking and numerous server configurations.
By the end of chapter 4 you will have a fully working desktop and know how to configure it as you wish. Then just pick the extra chapters as you need them. I'm just off now to configure that new network card...

If you want to try out Linux (the worlds best operating system) but know nothing about it, then this book is the perfect place to start. It even includes the three disks needed, brilliant!

I am not new to linux, but still found some useful and interesting tips and information i this book. There are loads of tools designed to make your life easier and this book mentions alot of them.

Want to move away from teh evil empire of microsoft and try linux, then start with this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good starter pack, 5 July 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Red Hat Linux Bible - Fedora and Enterprise Edition (Paperback)
I bought this book mostly becuase I wanted to get hold of a Linux distributable on CD, as it goes it offers allot more than the three CD's with Fedora on it!

I'd say its a good introductory book with plenty of information etc, its spread out a bit though so (like me) you might find your self flicking about trying to find that gem you saw last week.

I'd say you'll need a more indepth book once your up and running and bear in mind that Fedora Core 2 is released now and the CD's with this book contain Fedora Core 1. Not a problem for me as FC1 seems excellent and I'm still playing around / learning.
