As a Linux user I buy many books and this is one of the best sys admin books available. Easy to understand and comprehensive. RHEL5 is an excellent system and you'll understand it much better with this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok, but sadly typical of IT books in general, 17 Mar 2009
By G. Watson "George 83" (Ipswich) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Its not a bad book - the info is there but like too many books it sets out an intended audience then forgets them.

The writing style is "ping - pong". "Use the gui unless you use the text interface. Or use the text interface if you dont use the gui" - paraphrasing but thats pretty typical. Chunks of it read like a man page with no clear explanation of WHY!!

Examples are confused by introducing too many alternates - stick with one typical setup and work it through, put the alternates in a seperate section at the end of the chapter - thus creating a framework to hang the info on and not confuse the issue.

As I said the info is there, but like too many IT books you have to dig for it.
