A True Champion!!!,
By
This review is from: Record Breaker (Paperback)
Paddy Doyle starts his book with a gutsy and reverting story about how he single-handedly prevented four men from hijacking his car...they certainly picked on the wrong vehicle that night.
He goes on to talk about his tough working class roots, his military service with the Parachute regiment, his various jobs as a doorman, Housing Estates Officer, self-defence and close-protection instructor. But undoubtedly his greatest achievements are his 125 (and counting) British, European and World fitness records. Over 1.5 million press-ups in one year, a 50 mile run with a 40lb backpack, 5000 sit-ups with a 50lb plate in five hours, the list goes on. He also discusses his numerous appearances on the BBC programme "Record Breakers", during which, he tells a wonderful anecdote about a humorous encounter he had with Bruce Forsyth. He most definitely is a no nonsense character and you certainly wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him. However, he strikes me as a man with immense pride and honour and makes it quite clear about how he detests bullies. Although he is an individual sportsman, he categorically states that he couldn't have achieved his records without a team around him. Indeed, he dedicates his book to them all. If you want to read an autobiography of a true champion, then read "RECORD BREAKER"!
