Product Description

Product Description

Born in 1905 in the center of the crumbling Austro-Hungarian Empire, Viktor Frankl was a witness to the great political, philosophical, and scientific upheavals of the twentieth century. In these stirring recollections, Frankl describes how as a young doctor of neurology in prewar Vienna his disagreements with Freud and Adler led to the development of "the third Viennese School of Psychotherapy," known as logotherapy; recounts his harrowing trials in four concentration camps during the War; and reflects on the celebrity brought by the publication of "Man's Search for Meaning" in 1945.

A friend lent me Man's Search for Meaning: The Classic Tribute to Hope from the Holocaust which I thoroughly enjoyed. So impressed, I searched for other Viktor E. Frankl titles, which is when I came across "Recollections." Unfortunately I found this book to be a disappointment. A quick read at a 132 pages, it sometimes failed to hold my interest. The writing was quite dry in places and although Viktor Frankl has lived an extraordinary life, I don't think this book does him justice. Although, if you have a keen interest in Logotherapy and Psychology in general, you may find when and how Dr. Frankl formed his ideas appealing. However, like I mentioned, this book is short and you do not come away feeling like you've learnt a great deal.

Interesting man 22 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
An interesting man with an exceptional life. I would recommend reading this book. Thoughtfully and well written. I would also recommend his classic "Man's search for meaning".

I found the book to be uplifting, supportive and totally relevant to my quest for solace in loss.Have bought extra copies for my disillusioned menfolk, struggling with the complexities of urban trauma and violence.
