What do you do if you witness your father being murdered in a violent street attack? Well, if you're like Elizabeth Sellars in this lively 1950's British thriller you set out to bring the killer to justice on your own!

"Recoil" is another very welcome DVD release only slightly let down by the soundtrack - the audio level is very low and I needed to put the volume level up to maximum on my TV and then it was just about OK. However, there is also an annoying background noise perceptible through most of the movie which is rather irritating. The picture quality, however, is excellent and so we must assume that this was the best print available.

In spite of this, it's well worth buying and I enjoyed it immensely. As with all these type of thrillers we get a good snapshot of lost London, one in which it was possible to park your car directly opposite St Paul's Cathedral - no yellow lines then!!

Elizabeth Sellars gives a believable performance, not the bad girl this time as she often is. She is really quite a beauty and has lovely eyes. It always surprises me she isn't better remembered. Kieron Moore was adequate in the lead, and Edward Underdown as his brother was also very sympathetic.

100% enjoyable nostagia - again, if you like these kind of thrillers you'll rate this one highly.

I bought this film as I had not seen it before and thought as it was from Renown stock would be in better condition sound wise. The picture quality is very clear so no faults there. There should be a minimum standard below which films are not released. I would say this is a border line case as it is only the rarity of the film and inclusion of so many personal favourites that stops me from returning it. I note the comment about low volume in an earlier review and can confirm that it does require a high volume setting which of course means the background rumble is like wise loud. I hope Renown and Simply Media will look to sound quality on all future releases.
