Pillar is one of my favourite bands, so I got this album when it came out eager to listen to their new music. I'm happy to say that I enjoyed every single song off this album. One thing that I noticed straight away is the production quality of the songs, it was top notch. Pillar has progressed quite a bit from their original sound (rap-rock) and herein lies their positive point. They are very inventive in their song writing. I found an unusual three slow paced songs which are very well done indeed. Personal favourite among them is the song "Angel in Disguise" which was an emotional song about child abuse but when you just read the lyrics or listen to the song you have no idea what is going on in the song. Remainder of the album is good hard rock with highlights like "Everything", "Awake", "Crossfire" and "Chasing Shadows at Midnight". There are quite a few guitar solos interspersed in this album very well done by Noah (Guitarist). I love the way the album ends with the song "Chasing Shadows at Midnight" which starts with a slow pace and slowly builds up momentum at the end there is an amazing guitar solo with the drummer (Lester) doing double bass with a single pedal!
The DVD that comes with this 'Special Edition' album is a nice bonus too. That is the main reason for my choice of this album over the regular album. The DVD has Live Concert footage of `Cornerstone 2006' with live performance of songs, `Fireproof', `Hypnotized', `Simply', `Everything', `Bring me Down', `Frontline' and more. Then there is commentary from the band members about the songs in this album. Also it has interviews with all band members each one introducing their instrument sets and studios. Kalel (Bassist) plays some cool bass lines from the album and offers some tips. My favourites are interviews with Noah (Guitarist) playing some riffs and solos from the album and also Lester (Drummer) along with 2 other drummers doing sort like a drum solo. So if you are thinking about buying this `Special Edition' or the regular album, I'd highly recommend this. It's worth it!
