5.0 out of 5 stars Late night listen. 16 July 2003
Format:Audio CD
A gorgeous, smoky, late night listen of a record, full of the beauty and sadness of life. from the stunning opener and title track, reckless burning, you know that you are in the presence of a special talent.
Music to mellow, chill, and fall in love to.
at nine tracks, this is one CD that will never outstay it's welcome.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly spooky 17 May 2003
Format:Audio CD
If you're going to have long songs with repetitive refrains, you need strong melodies to support them and this album doesn't quite have them, with the result that as I listened I kept thinking to myself, "Get on with it!". It's rather beautiful, but all a little too much of the same thing for my taste. That said, if you like spooky gothic country this is well worth a listen. I'd say it roughly approximates a well produced cross between the Cowboy Junkies and the Handsome Family. Although the songs are narratives its much left up to the listener to discern what they're about and this pregnant restrained ambiguity works well. I'll be interested to see where they develop next.
