Review

THE BITE LIST: 'Strong and searching novels that cover very difficult scenarios ... The humanity of the protagonist really shines through in the expert characterisation and writing, making these novels really challenge the reader's empathy. I would strongly recommend these stark and thought provoking titles.' (The Bookseller )

BLUE: 'a compelling read' (The Children's Bookseller )

'All boys should read this book - and anyone who is, was, knows, or is ever thinking about being, a teenage parent!' (Ashley Herron, National Literacy Trust Website )

Product Description

The year they turn sixteen, twins Josh and Rachel have the best summer holiday ever! Camping, swimming, diving off rocks, and meeting new friends their age. Everything is perfect! But then Josh falls in love with a girl called Charlie, and what should have been a holiday romance turns into something heavy. Josh has always been attracted to danger, and Charlie seems just the same, but after the holiday has ended he is faced with his biggest challenge yet: Charlie is pregnant with his baby. Rachel is keen to support her twin - they've always been there for each other! But Josh doesn't want to know - he ignores Charlie, and their unborn baby and instead launches himself into sport - the faster and more dangerous the better! But slowly Rachel helps Josh to face up to his responsibilties and stop running away. It's not a perfect ending, but when the baby is born, Josh has turned a corner in his life. And there's no going back ... (20021119)

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Read From Start To Finish!, 12 Jun 2006

A. Johnston "a_johnston" (N. Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Reckless (Bite) (Paperback)
After reading and loving quite a few books in the excellent Bite series, I bought this for another gripping novel that I couldn't put down! And I got what I was looking for, and more! The story follows two twins, Josh and Rachel, recounting the events of one of their summer holidays camping with the family. The plot may seem pretty innocent at first, but things soon become much more than either of the twins could ever have imagined. It is told by both teenagers, giving two different views on the same situation. It is an insight into teenage attitudes towards many controversial issues, and focuses on their lives with the gritty reality kept in. This is the only book that has ever made me cry! Sue Mayfield really brings the characters to life and involves the reader in the story. I was on edge reading it, having no idea how it was going to end. The great thing is that this book isn't predictable, but ends perfectly. The story is beautifully told from start to finish. If you like other Bite books, you'll definately like this!

5.0 out of 5 stars I agree with A. Johnston, 16 July 2007
This review is from: Reckless (Bite) (Paperback)
An awesome book! The story is told from two points of view - Rachel's and her twim brother Josh's.
While the plot was easy to guess it was different from other books with the same baby theme.

A heart warming tale with a message!

This review is from: Reckless (Bite) (Paperback)
This book is nothing special its filled with irrelevant details and dances around the main plot for far too long. It is also painfully obvious. I had high hopes but if i had to decide on buying it all over again....i wouldnt...
